Playing P1 PSP right now. Would be unbalanced to add Social Links to Persona 1, the game simply isn't compatible. You have a progression like "Story Event -> Dungeon -> Boss Battle -> Story Event", without any real idle time. The only facultative interactions with other characters are between these events, like one-two lines of dialogue. Implementing SL would also mean adding a day-to-day calendar which, again, wouldn't work for the game. The map was in 3D on PS1, and it was pretty ugly -and slow, not interesting. The remake had 2D maps instead, which was a little better. TL;DR: Persona 1 couldn't be improved without completely changing the game and its narration. It would be totally different.

Just as Lautael said, P1 isn't exactly Social Link compatible, but if they ever remaster it, they should rework the combat system, cause right now, the game is very alienable to players. It's not hard, but annoying, which is worse.
