Missed another SNAFU this morning, John. Just as Old Guard were going out to parade, New Guard arrived with orders to go straight in to stables. Both troops then proceeded to traipse past one another in the tunnel, and ended up on opposite ends of Horse Guards. Hopefully we'll see things done properly once again by next week. Take care till then.

Hi John. The lady with the Gatesman was Japanese & the bowing was a respectful apology to the guard. She was showing humility and loss of face. She was clearly embarrassed. The Guard controlling the uneasy horse with his left hand for nearly an hour was amazing. Credit where credit is due to him. Tourists are amazingly dumb!

You got that right! He rides with one hand only, the reins are almost always relatively loose if not totally slack so there’s no pressure on the horses mouth ,no pain. The rider uses his body and legs more than his hands to control the animal. I used to breed these warmbloods, and they are incredibly big and powerful, riding on pavement without rubber shoes is extremely slippery/dangerous. Kudos to the riders

Shouldn't the police be more proactive in insisting the public stay back when a horse is obviously unsettled! ! There is no guarantee it wont take flight into the crowd, you cant trust the public to be sensible, they need to be told!!! Thanks for your superb coverage John you manage to be in the right place at the right time ! Btw well done for correcting the little muppet who hit the young girl in your other video, appalling behaviour! I hope he got a stern telling off from the Police and his Teacher!! Im astonished no one attended the guard when he pressed the button for the second time! What an incredible job the horseman did, they must both be exhausted ! It is so good that the trooper are so well trained to deal with a difficult horse for an hour that simply does not want to be in the box to work, it is a credit to the trooper in the skill's that they have been trained to do, & your right if a horse does not want to do what it is ask, you can not make it ❤

Animals are just like people, they have bad days too. I used to have a service dog who's sadly passed, but even with proper training, some days he'd wake up and not want to do his job just like how I didn't want to do mine. It takes so much patience and skill to manage a working animal's meltdowns with a calm hand and not let it get out of hand. I hope this guard knows how much he's appreciated despite the gawking, brainless tourists that just focused on being upset they didn't get a photo. If I ever get the chance to visit England, I want to thank these men for their endless patience for what tourist put them through, not get a photo of them and their horses as if they're just statues. Much like service dogs, these horses and their riders are on duty, so it's just mind-boggling how people treat them without proper respect. I do hope that they get compliments or thanks from bystanders or tourists from time to time.

I presume the reason they don't always replace irritable horses is precisely to prevent the horses getting too smart about knowing they can get off the duty if they act up enough! Incredible horsemanship as no matter how competent you are, you're a long way off the ground if the horse decides to fully rear - & I did see one on someone else's video that did exactly that 2 secs after the rider had dismounted - fell over completely backwards!! Thankfully uninjured & up in secs too but if the Guard had still been on it could have been horrendous.

Considering it to be a busy day with the changeover, and the chain connecting to the secondary rein left undone, that horse may have been triggered coming out of the stables. That guard did an amazing job keeping him out, so that the horse knew he wouldn't get away with not settling down. I assume the lady from a different culture, may have wanted to save face, apologizing to the guard. Some people freeze in spot, if they aren't familiar with what is going on, or the danger. What fabulous teamwork. You could hear the determined stomping of the Gatesman's feet, as he walked the horse and guard, into the box.

Why aren’t the MOD police stopping people from walking round that corner & into the path of the obviously stressed horse? They could prevent the horse from being crowded & tourists from standing in the way, trying to get in the box with the horse, plus no end of daft behaviour, it stops anyone from getting squashed. Tourists standing in gateway means the horse has nowhere to go, they cut off the “escape route” Who is doing their health & safety? That horse is a risk to him/herself & everyone else there. Is there something in that box?

Some horses hate being without other horses, for the feeling of safety in numbers. Training in working independently along with a bond to the rider/owner makes for a much safer mount. Also some horses e.g. draught breeds mostly have quieter minds.

The problem with letting that horse go back to the stable is that it will learn that it can misbehave and be let back to the stable. This is a common problem with horses, and it can be very difficult to break them of this habit. If the horse is allowed to go back to the stable, it will likely start misbehaving again, and the cycle will continue. The best way to deal with this situation is to prevent the horse from going back to the stable in the first place. If the horse is not allowed to go back to the stable, it will not be able to misbehave, and the cycle will be broken.

Well done that guard. Fantastic horsemanship. The box looks as if it’s needing a clean. Standing in poop can’t be good.

48:14 Sorry for laughing at this, but it was kinda funny to have the tension building up of the horse being set free, while you are right in front of it. Getting the news from the horse's mouth, sort of speak. And then it turned around and started backing into you, i just couldn't help but burst out laughing, assuming everything ended well of course. That was a surprisingly captivating hour, and loved the commentry on the tourists as well, the amount of times i shake my head at those people.

I've been around livestock all my life, so I have a lot of common sense about how to deal with horses. However, I realize that not everyone has the same experience and may not be aware of the danger that a horse can pose. Horses are very powerful animals, and they can easily injure or kill a human if they are mishandled. It is important to be aware of the potential dangers of interacting with horses and to take precautions to avoid accidents.

I think there should be more rules in place regarding the public, I feel for for the horses and guards at times.

Forrest Gump said "Stupid is as stupid does". People just don't use logic. Then wonder what they did wrong. 😅 We've all done something stupid. But a horse having a meltdown and is nervously moving about. You move out of the way. You don't just stand there.

I remember seeing this as a small child in the late 50s/early 60s while visiting my English grandmother in London, when tourists were an unknown breed.
