Aadat was originally released by Jal in 2004 featuring Atif Aslam (vocals) and Goher Mumtaz (lead guitar and backup vocals). The song was co-written by both and composed by Goher. It went viral in Pakistan soon after release. Unfortunately while working on future album they developed differences and the band split with both claiming rights to the songs. The case landed in court and it was subsequently decreed that the songs belonged to both while the name 'Jal' belonged to Goher. Atif soon released an album comprising those songs and Jal followed up with Farhan as lead singer. Soon thereafter the song went viral in India and Bollywood contacted Atif to perform for 'Kalyug' which became very famous in India. The original composition was used as the base line with slight tweaking. This version is actually a mashup of 2 songs with the second being Bhanwaray by Jal. Nescafe was directed by Xulfi who is the current director of Coke Studio. He was also the founder of Call the Band (Laree Chotee) and Entity Paradigm (metal band) among other ventures. @c.a.r.o.l.b You were humming ‘Ye Dunya’ in the video. Did you notice Sherry Khattak playing the orange guitar 🎸. He is the lead singer of Karakoram and performed on ‘Ye Dunya’ in CS 14. The drummer was Bilawal who is also with Karakoram and performed in the same video.

The reason this sounds better than the original is because the original man (or one of them) is here: Gohar Mumtaz. He and Atif Aslam were the original duo, he wrote this song if I'm not wrong and Atif gave the vocals. This instrumental is in fact closest to the original score. Everytime I listen to this instrumental I go back to the original song in my mind. Love it.

The word "Jal" means ocean, and it was also the name of the band in early-2000s by Atif Aslam and Goher. The first song "Aadat" by Jal became SOOOO massive on a level that is unmatched. No matter what other songs they have made, and no matter how famous and successful they have both become, Jal, and Aadat, is still their primary identity. So the lyrics "Har jagah hai jal (everywhere is Jal)" has a double meaning. The band name is still their identity and inescapable, it is everywhere in their life ... and the seas/oceans are everywhere on the planet.

BTW this is an instrumental version of one of the most nostalgic/iconic song AADAT originally sung by Atif Aslam, but written and composed by Gohar Mumtaz (featured here). Jal (which means Water in Urdu, but ironically also used for burn in Urdu) was their band name. Here at the end Gohar sung short version of his new original song BHANWAREY after AADAT Instrumental. Gohar is a great composer actually Atif Aslam (he left Jal band) who is one of the best singer if not the best in the region got famous cz of this song, their Band JAL produced some of the most amazing nostalgic songs of this region loved by Billions mostly those songs were written and composed by Gohar but then again Atifs unique vocals made it even better. Your emotions would have doubled if you knew the original song while reciting the lyrics from original song. BTW Farhan Saeed took Atif place in Jal band and he also left later, he was v good aswell, even sung his version of Aadat in band called Bikhra Hoon Main. There was another great song Woh Lamhey done by both Atif and Farhan is also a v great song, composed by Gohar.

Paar Chana de by coke studio and Humsafar by Quratulain Baloch are masterpieces as well when it comes to the lyrics and singing, the first one is punjabi folklore on star crossed doomed lovers who meet every night by crossing the river Chenaab- the girl uses a clay pot to float over but her sister in law finds out and replaces it so she sinks the next time she goes to meet her lover and the song follows their tragic love story. The second one is a masterful poem written about the separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan and was also used as the ost of Pakistan's most famous drama by the same name- interesting lyrics since it can be read as a love story and a tale of literal separation of east Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and west Pakistan.
