I was born here 2001. This generation I didn’t get to see, nor did my parents who moved here in the 1990s. Thank you for sharing this, I love seeing the differences and similarities of my birth-town.

Wow cant believe you drove down baldocks past my old best mates & then up buckminster right round the top where we lived 2 doors away in the corner in about 86:)

Mum and Dad lived at number 36 until dad's death about 15 years after this was filmed, and I was back living there in the early 90s so we must know you.

@@mickbarratt9636 Really sorry to hear about your dad, we lived at no 32, and my mums name was pat & my stepdad was steve, we had a rottweiller called rommell:) both my parents have passed since, i used to have a old blue mini clubman 1100 sports on the driveway & my mum had a yellow truimp dolomite:) nice seeing back in the old days:)

@@rokagrooveradio8429 That was Doug and Holly Onions’ house. Wasn’t Steve a driver? I remember the van and I’m sure that it was Steve’s. Sad that they are both gone.

@@mickbarratt9636 Steve used to work at metalbox in leicester as a manager, so mechanical engineer, and my mum used to work for the solicitors as a legal secretary, just remembering steve used to have a red bmw 320i or 318, at the time penny used to live next door & her boyfriend who had a motorbike, long time ago trying to remember, but great times back then compared to now:)

North east Leicestershire… home of pork pies and Stilton cheese. I was born and bread in melton. Don’t live there now but my family still does….

That is 1985 not 86. B&H printing on Norman way were already opened by Christmas 85 The inner relief road was fully open by late 85 and when I started working at Burgess (Melton) in February 1986 the ring road was finished and up and running properly. The walls alongside the inner relief road and Burgess were built and the area between the road and the workshop were planted up by the council by late autumn.

I would say it is older than 1985 because there were no buildings on the ground opposite the "Pera" building on Nottingham Rd. This ground just before the old railway embankment was known locally as the hills and hollows and was built on around 1984 and was where Melton borough council had their "new"(@ the time) offices. I know this for definite as I was a trainee bricky on the site. Also the fact that the guy mentioned that the council offices were still in the old building (Wilton hs) adjacent to the memorial gardens. They didn't move out of those promises until March/April 1985. The council has since this moved yet again to another new build on the site of the old railway coal yard. The old site now has a supermarket (I think sainsbuy) on it. I was born there in 1966 and left in 1984 and vowed never to return. I dislike this place with every nerve in my body. I was so glad to hear they are now building a ring road around it so I can now avoid it even more. Hopefully it will bring about the demise of this dreadfully place with no "passing trade". Best advice I would give anyone about this dump is to avoid it like COVID 19 and if you're already there, get out ASAP.
