In neighborhood, I know of two other people that have attempted gardening in the last 3 or 4 years. One person invested a lot of money with metal raised beds. Both of them have quit gardening. I keep pushing through and am only now seeing the good progress. Or at least good enough for me.

You’ve given this New Yorker hope. I grew up in the city & now have a little patch of Earth in the suburbs and I’m longing to be a farmer (or at least someone that can grow herbs). Thank you! So happy I found this video in March!

I'm so glad I found your channel. I recently moved from zone 8 to zone 4 and trying to learn as much as I can about growing in my new zone. I appreciate your content and am inspired to grow in the spring. Please keep the great videos coming 👍

Loved hearing Matt and Carla’s story. Very encouraging. I will consider putting in an irrigation system to free up time for other things

I'm in 5a and have been frustrated in how few video resources there is for my area. I really appreciate seeing things in your growing zone because it shows me just how much more can be done

Thanks for sharing that Em. We can definitely still grow a huge amount of food even in zone 3. Our winters are dark and cold, but being further north means we also get a lot of sunlight to work with in the summer time.

Surprised they don't seem to have any tree fruit or berry bushes growing in all that lawn. Great job doing that weeding, sounds super satisfying.

Hey what are your thoughts on the industrial landscape type fabric (13’ wide up to 50’ long)..long story short, just don’t have the time/help to weed/prep beds. My best other option is to spend a couple days mowing the fields to collect grass clippings & pile around plants & the garden. If I get behind though on that it’s like them, I just need to get the bushhog/tractor out and mow then till the entire garden. Ha Definitely need to do the better irrigation this year. Thanks for sharing.

Landscape fabric is one of the weed control strategies we use. Sometimes we use it around the edges of our gardens to cover areas entirely. Sometimes we burn holes in it and plant right through it. If you go that route, use the woven polypropylene style of landscape fabric. There are many other fabric types that won't last nearly as long or be as effective. You can find an example of this type of fabric on our Tool Shed page here: www.vegetableacademy.com/toolshed Another cover that is even more effective at covering areas for weed control is a silage tarp. These tarps block all light but they don't allow moisture to penetrate. The choice of material depends on your application.

I see there's no fence. Didn't they have problems with deer, moose, etc?
@VegetableAcademy Жыл бұрын
They have a large dog that keeps the deer away. Otherwise, that definitely would have been a problem.
