That dude got the plot to Crossroads completely wrong. Ralph didnt sell his soul to the devil to play the way he did, the old man did. The old man was trying to get out of the deal with the devil so Ralph made a deal if he won the guitar battle then he could free the old man.

Ralph never sold his soul to the devil. The old blues man did. Ralph put his on the line as the prize if he lost the contest. Winning the contest got the old man's soul back. Although the old man had murdered someone, so if the soul/devil thing was really going on, he was going to go to hell anyway, so yeah.

'CROSSROADS' - PLOT CLARIFICATIONS + MORAL * * hell yes major spoiler alert * * The old bluesman sold his soul decades ago in exchange for musical talent but has lately decided he wants to renege on that deal. His boy sidekick, wannabe bluesman Ralph, has a cherry low-mileage soul & wagers it as collateral to enter a blues guitar battle for reclaiming the old man's soul from Satan. Steve Vai performs on Satan's behalf in the blues contest, but Ralph finally wins it all by whipping out some surprise Paganini licks he learned back at Julliard -- and hooray, both souls are safe in the end! So what's the moral of this story, kids? Black folks' music is raw & funky & all, but only white men can compose music good enough to defeat the devil.

Vai is just a technician, nothing more, nothing less. He will never be a Jimi Hendrix, a Rory Gallagher, a Jimmy Page because those people came up through real life experiences, not sterile Berklee music theory. THAT is the difference.

Not taking up for Steve here but how do you know he doesn't have life experience. He has as much life experience as anyone else. You're assuming a LOT when you say that. You don't know any of the people you just named, but you know who has more life experience?
