This is false..... The Central Park 5 case did not have a "lack of physical evidence". Nor were they innocent/exonerated by DNA evidence... 1. Female blood similar to the joggers on 2 of the boys shoes. 2. DNA had just begun to be used as evidence 6 months before this case so police were not trained how to keep a crime scene pristine back then. The DNA they did retrieve belonged to a 6th boy so they always knew they missed someone. 3. 2 of the boys had female genital pubic hair on them that matched the jogger. 4. 3 of the boys had semen in their underwear. 5. The boys were not beaten to get a confession out, they weren't starved either, the questioning wasn't harsh or manipulative (it's on video), the parents were also IN THE ROOM! 6. There were 95 witnesses that testified... most were eye witnesses but there was also Melody Jackson, whose brother was friends with Korey Wise, she testified that she talked to Wise by phone when he was at Rikers Island and that he told her that he didn't rape the jogger, he "only held her legs down while Kevin (Richardson) f*cked her. He only felt her breast" She originally volunteered this information to the police thinking it would be helpful to Wise. The boys admit to beating her and sexually molesting her. We even know exactly which boys held her down. The only question is if any of the boys entered her while they were holding her down feeling her up. We know how many boys had their penises out and humping her... the question is did they go inside of her. Each boy tells on the others but no boy admits to entering her. They took turns but none of the boys admitted to watching the other to see if the penis entered... they just assumed since the boys were humping, that they were inside. 7. Reyes confessed to doing all of it alone after he got beat up by Korey Wise, who had become a blood prison gang leader. You can read the prison report regarding the fight. Reyes had absolutely nothing to lose by confessing to the rape, the statute of limitations had run out already, he had much to gain by claiming he acted alone: He got a favorable prison transfer. He was already in prison for murder. Police always knew a 6th boy had gotten away. Listen to the five boys testimony they mention Reyes walking up mid way thru the assault. There's also a report from a former cellmate of Mattias Reyes before he was transferred. He said Reyes told him he showed up at the end and took Trisha to another location to rape her again 1/11/02 - Reyes filed a request for Separation from General Population stating he "Feared for his life" an investigation was launched by Officer Clark and was confirmed later in 11/12 by Captain Gummerson at Auburn Correctional Facility, who confirmed that Reyes was in danger if he remained in the general population alongside Korey Wise. In the book "Your Eyes Your Life" by Richard Siracusa, he writes "The panel suggested that there investigation revealed evidence that Reyes came forward as a result of threats delivered through the underground prison communication system and/ or he acted in order to get a desired change in prison assignment" One of the key reasons anyone remotely believed Reyes was because he claimed he had information no one else would have. While he was raping her he took her Walkman.. Except, when Michael Armstrong did the reinvestigation he found notes in the court records notes taken by a detective on April 20, 1989 where Korey Wise said that when he was attacking the jogger there was another guy named "Rudy" who while he was raping her took her walkman and took her fanny pack. The boys called Reyes, "Rudy" multiple boys called him that. 8. The boys were only found because Kevin Richardson and Raymond Santana were caught in the midst of the 30+ boys running away. After they were arrested they gave all the remaining names and where to find the other boys to the police... which is how we know who was involved. At the time of arrest for the first two boys the police didn't even know about the jogger. Her body had not yet been found nor her assault known about by anyone outside of the boys. None of the boys knew if the female jogger survived the attack and some assumed she had died. When Raymond Santana was being driven to the precinct the night of the rape, he blurted out: "I had nothing to do with the rape. All I did was feel the woman's tits." This was how the police found out about the jogger. The group of more than 30+ boys planned to go "wilding" two days prior. They intended to come to Central Park and beat up random people this was a game, this was not random nor did anyone's father tell them to go hang out at the park like the Netflix show suggest.... You can listen to the interviews and see that multiple boys talk about this being a planned event. They beat 7 other victims that night. One man they beat with a metal pipe so bad that they almost killed him. They fractured his skull and caved in both eye sockets. 9. Up until 2002 Raymond Santana was saying that he had done everything else except the rape, Yusef Salaam said the same thing. They changed their story after the publicity. Hence the one sidedness and ignoring facts /evidence from the film. Ken Burns (Sarah's Father) admits the reason he made the film was to force the city to settle. There was medical evidence that the jogger/victim was attacked by multiple attackers. When Sarah Burns interviewed the doctor who treated the jogger, "Dr. Robert Kurtz" he told Sarah this and provided her the medical records... She interviewed him for a full day! However Sarah decided to leave this part out of the Documentary. When asked about this by a journalist she said "I'm sure he (Dr. Kurtz) believes that," but "It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't have any reason to disbelieve what Reyes described in detail." "She had five bleeding lacerations to her head," he said. "Three of them were raggedy, consistent with the use of some sort of blunt instrument such as a tree limb or bough that Reyes said he used." But there were also "two lacerations on her scalp that were inflicted by a much sharper instrument - like a knife, or a piece of broken glass, or a rock with a sharp point on it." Reyes said he didn't use a knife. Also, his colleague, Dr. Jane Haher, spotted hand prints on Meili's thighs and lower legs suggesting she was held down. The Netflix show "When They See Us" is "biased" and "Completely Slanted" per the Creator and writer of the show Ava DuVernay. Which explains the blatant lies like when the officer hits Kevin Richardson in the face with an officers motorcycle helmet... when in reality no officer had a helmet or even a motorcycle. Nor did he have a black eye in real life like he did in the show... they created an insanely inaccurate portrayal to control the viewers perception of what actually happened. You can still look at the booking photo of Kevin Richardson so it's not like she didn't know this.... I applaud them for fighting this fight as they were innocent of this crime. All of the evidence just never added up. But some in the group were out that night and admitted to beating a man with a pipe unconscious in the park. The situation that transpired from that night was unfortunate and I am glad that they have found some type of reconciliation. I always tell my boys that if you go looking for trouble, trouble will find you.

Watching Korey Wise statement when he was 16. He spoke a lot better than he speaks now. I honestly feel so bad for him. I think his experience just before jail and in jail was a shock and this shock affected his ability to speak properly (took away his voice). We love you Korey and understand you relied more on your friends as family. It’s unfortunate they weren’t there when you needed them most. You are a strong man and I’m glad you didn’t die/ commit suicide. God kept you and knew you will be the one to set others free. They all owe you their lives. It’s because of you, the CP 5 can tell their story. You are very important and you’ve made significant progress from the last interview I saw 6 years ago. Times heals everything. Korey is NOT a hero. He admitted his participation if you LISTEN to his whole interview. You do know he fought with "the lone rapist" in jan of 1990 in a breakroom over the "tv", right? Coincidence? And then about 11 yrs later him and Korey would be at the same facility once again but "the lone rapist" was kicked out of segregation because he was a problem child and Korey was threatening him. "the lone rapist" had nothing to lose by admitting his participation, he was already serving a life sentence and statute of limitations were up on the jogger case so he couldn't be charged with anymore crimes. It was a win for "the lone rapist" and a win for Korey.."the lone rapist" would now be sent back to segregation due to his now, public notoriety and Korey would be set free..Trackin'?

This story has beyond MOVED me. I was just being born when you these poor kids were on trial. Fast forward 26 years, i now have my own son who is 6 and im at home watching this Netflix series. Learning about these men hurt on so many levels. Not just because I am a mother myself and couldnt even image my baby feeling/ experiencing what they went through, but also because of how very badly America and the justice system failed CHILDREN. It really is BEYOND me how without evidence they were still found guilty. I come from a Hispanic background and my experience with racism doesnt even come close to these men's experience, but even i would like to just hug them and apologize to them. When they most needed help the world turned their backs and they were way to young to understand. Im so moved by this story that I now wish to pursue an additional major in psychology ( first major is in Nursing, and its also been an interest to work at the prisons) so i can help discharged prisoners move forward after prison. I personally believe that I am no one to judge and i can only hope i can accomplish some kind of help for getting these kinds of people on their feet after such horrible experiences. There were 95 witnesses that testified... most were eye witnesses but there was also Melody Jackson, whose brother was friends with Korey Wise, she testified that she talked to Wise by phone when he was at Rikers Island and that he told her that he didn't rape the jogger, he "only held her legs down while Kevin (Richardson) f*cked her. He only felt her breast" She originally volunteered this information to the police thinking it would be helpful to Wise. The boys admit to beating her and sexually molesting her. We even know exactly which boys held her down. The only question is if any of the boys entered her while they were holding her down feeling her up. We know how many boys had their penises out and humping her... the question is did they go inside of her. Each boy tells on the others but no boy admits to entering her. They took turns but none of the boys admitted to watching the other to see if the penis entered... they just assumed since the boys were humping, that they were inside. 7. Reyes confessed to doing all of it alone after he got beat up by Korey Wise, who had become a blood prison gang leader. You can read the prison report regarding the fight. Reyes had absolutely nothing to lose by confessing to the rape, the statute of limitations had run out already, he had much to gain by claiming he acted alone: He got a favorable prison transfer. He was already in prison for murder. Police always knew a 6th boy had gotten away. Listen to the five boys testimony they mention Reyes walking up mid way thru the assault. There's also a report from a former cellmate of Mattias Reyes before he was transferred. He said Reyes told him he showed up at the end and took Trisha to another location to rape her again 1/11/02 - Reyes filed a request for Separation from General Population stating he "Feared for his life" an investigation was launched by Officer Clark and was confirmed later in 11/12 by Captain Gummerson at Auburn Correctional Facility, who confirmed that Reyes was in danger if he remained in the general population alongside Korey Wise. In the book "Your Eyes Your Life" by Richard Siracusa, he writes "The panel suggested that there investigation revealed evidence that Reyes came forward as a result of threats delivered through the underground prison communication system and/ or he acted in order to get a desired change in prison assignment" One of the key reasons anyone remotely believed Reyes was because he claimed he had information no one else would have. While he was raping her he took her Walkman.. Except, when Michael Armstrong did the reinvestigation he found notes in the court records notes taken by a detective on April 20, 1989 where Korey Wise said that when he was attacking the jogger there was another guy named "Rudy" who while he was raping her took her walkman and took her fanny pack. The boys called Reyes, "Rudy" multiple boys called him that. 8. The boys were only found because Kevin Richardson and Raymond Santana were caught in the midst of the 30+ boys running away. After they were arrested they gave all the remaining names and where to find the other boys to the police... which is how we know who was involved. At the time of arrest for the first two boys the police didn't even know about the jogger. Her body had not yet been found nor her assault known about by anyone outside of the boys. None of the boys knew if the female jogger survived the attack and some assumed she had died. When Raymond Santana was being driven to the precinct the night of the rape, he blurted out: "I had nothing to do with the rape. All I did was feel the woman's tits." This was how the police found out about the jogger. The group of more than 30+ boys planned to go "wilding" two days prior. They intended to come to Central Park and beat up random people this was a game, this was not random nor did anyone's father tell them to go hang out at the park like the Netflix show suggest.... You can listen to the interviews and see that multiple boys talk about this being a planned event. They beat 7 other victims that night. One man they beat with a metal pipe so bad that they almost killed him. They fractured his skull and caved in both eye sockets. 9. Up until 2002 Raymond Santana was saying that he had done everything else except the rape, Yusef Salaam said the same thing. They changed their story after the publicity. Hence the one sidedness and ignoring facts /evidence from the film. Ken Burns (Sarah's Father) admits the reason he made the film was to force the city to settle. There was medical evidence that the jogger/victim was attacked by multiple attackers. When Sarah Burns interviewed the doctor who treated the jogger, "Dr. Robert Kurtz" he told Sarah this and provided her the medical records... She interviewed him for a full day! However Sarah decided to leave this part out of the Documentary. When asked about this by a journalist she said "I'm sure he (Dr. Kurtz) believes that," but "It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I don't have any reason to disbelieve what Reyes described in detail." "She had five bleeding lacerations to her head," he said. "Three of them were raggedy, consistent with the use of some sort of blunt instrument such as a tree limb or bough that Reyes said he used." But there were also "two lacerations on her scalp that were inflicted by a much sharper instrument - like a knife, or a piece of broken glass, or a rock with a sharp point on it." Reyes said he didn't use a knife. Also, his colleague, Dr. Jane Haher, spotted hand prints on Meili's thighs and lower legs suggesting she was held down. The Netflix show "When They See Us" is "biased" and "Completely Slanted" per the Creator and writer of the show Ava DuVernay. Which explains the blatant lies like when the officer hits Kevin Richardson in the face with an officers motorcycle helmet... when in reality no officer had a helmet or even a motorcycle. Nor did he have a black eye in real life like he did in the show... they created an insanely inaccurate portrayal to control the viewers perception of what actually happened. You're not obligated to forgive anyone. You can heal without that, at least I can. There is no way in hell I'd forgive any of those involved for the injustice, pain and trauma they inflicted upon me KNOWINGLY. I can still have a warm heart toward others and move forward positively/productively without forgiving those that wronged me...especially when there's no remorse. You EARN forgiveness by atonement and changed behavior, you're not entitled to it.

Forgiveness is for you, it's not for them! When you fail to forgive someone you give them power over you, when you forgive you take that power back. People fail to realize that forgiving someone does not excuse them for what they have done, the pain they have caused, the life they have ruined nor does it mean that there has to be reconciliation. It's cliche but there's a saying... unforgiviness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die!

I totally agree with you! Never understood how people could expect this of someone who has been excused of something they didn't do and treated so unfairly. I watched the 4 part series and my heart was touched with all types of emotion. Hate towards the justice system that was unjust and the people who knew the truth but still continued their wicked acts. Sympathy for the young men who were unfairly criminalized and the suffering they have and may still endure. I get love and hope from their life experiences that encourages one to never give up fighting for justice.
