My 3 daughters and I began a tradition in 2011 of having a Christmas baking day. Now my grand daughters join the fun. We make hundreds of cookies, pies baklava, even homemade rolls. At the end of the day we make up trays to donate. We have taken goodies to the local,police department, fire stations and last year a memory care facility, we all fill tins to take home too. It’s a day we all look forward. I’ll be adding these cookies to my list for baking day❤.

These look delicious! My wife and I have been getting a Collins Street Bakery fruit cake for as long as I can remember but they have become so expensive that this year we won't be ordering one - wife says she can make a whole Christmas dinner for what they want for one of their fruit cakes! So I think we're going to try making these cookies instead to substitute for the fruit cake this time. Remember to always get your ingredients "well acquainted with one another" -- lol - hope you and yours have a very blessed Christmas!

Easy cheat is buy a box of pumpkin bread mix. Add spices and all the fruits and nuts with the flour to keep them suspended in the cake as it bakes.

You are just about the cutest thing ever! Thank you! My grandparents made a 25 lb. fruit cake back in the 70's. They broke a spoon trying to mix it all up. I thought it was the nastiest thing I had ever put in my mouth. Many years later, I had fruit cake cookies, and I thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread.

My beloved mother’inlaw used to make the best fruitcake. There were no bitters or rum, just tiny diced red and green cherries and yellow raisins and candied pineapple (hard to find), and walnuts. It was like a very dense pound cake, and it was DELICIOUS. I remember it being very time consuming to cut up all the fruits, and she would be very frugal when and for whom she would serve it.

I make cookies every Christmas using the typical Toll House cookie recipe, however, instead of chocolate chips I use white chocolate, I then add dried cranberries, chopped pecans or walnuts (or a combo of the 2 nuts) and some orange zest. Oh my goodness they’re great and the whole family loves them! You can also make oatmeal cookies and add white chocolate chips, nuts, dried cranberries, and orange zest! Both kinds are delicious!

We made candied pineapple for years, it’s so good! What most people find objectionable in fruitcake is the candied citron, even if they can’t identify it, so we don’t put it in. Dried cherries instead of candied make it really tasty.

One of my grandmothers used to make a fruitcake every Christmas using graham cracker crumbs, butter, marshmallow cream (I think), and candied fruits and pecans. She would use the graham cracker box to shape it and it was refrigerated. I lost her recipe and haven't been able to replicate it. But I have fond memories of gladly accepting a slice whenever I was at her house. It was terribly sweet ... just the way I like it. I think I may have inherited my sweer tooth from her 😊

My mom made those every Christmas. The only problem was they never lasted till Christmas. There were 5 of us kids so goodies never lasted very long around us kids. Eventually to make them last longer My mom would bake them and store in a round cookie tin and hide them from us kids until around Christmas. We always knew when she made them, the house smelled heavenly when we would get home from school.

This looks like the fruitcake cookies my mom made for years. Recipe probably goes back 70 years or so. The main difference is my mom's recipe called for a bit of whiskey in the batter instead of vanilla. My son-in-law hated fruitcake, but ate TONS of these cookies. They're awesome!

Real fruit cakes get a bad rap. One year on Christmas Eve I had all my Family over and made a real homemade fruit cake. Not only was everyone impressed but they loved the cake. Those cookies look devine. Kay Kay, cook,,,, you'll love it.

I wonder if the folks at Miele would be interested in sponsoring you, they are known for making terrific ovens and stoves! The reason I thought of them is not only because they’re a nice brand and you deserve the best, Meme, but because I recall they sponsored this little PBS Kids cooking show called Twice as Good and it was these two little girls cooking simple recipes and when they needed a grownup to help, their designated grownup was their grandmother. I used to watch this show with my son when he was very little. But anyway, I think you’d be a great brand ambassador for them so do look into a brand sponsorship replacement for that wonky stove! You really do deserve a great quality stove/oven/cooktop if anybody ever did!!! I just shared your dressing video with a friend online from the UK who was disappointed in some pre made stuffing he bought in the UK… I explained southern US dressing to him and sent your video and he was so intrigued he’s going to try to make some! Isn’t that neat?! Thank you for reminding me of all the love from my own dear departed Mema who taught me some of these same dishes.

My Mom used to make these! They were SO GOOD! People are so funny about fruitcake, so she didn't give them to people; only had them for us and for family gatherings. I loved them. But my brother hated anything fruitcake - and LIED and told her he liked them too. I found out after she passed away. She really only made them because she thought everyone (especially him) liked them, and all the time he couldn't stand them. I really scolded him, although I had suspected it all along. Just broke my heart for her! They are very expensive to make, and she didn't want to make them if everyone didn't like them. Well folks, THEY ARE VERY GOOD, trust me! They are very pretty and festive, too.
