I do my deviled eggs first. That way if any eggs tear, I use them in my potato salad. Paprika is also pretty on top.

Again, so funny, but Mama used to say the same thing about peeling a potato! Her mother always said that a sharp knife like the one you are using takes less potato off than a potato peeler! And I agree! My grandparents were depression era folks who taught me to conserve as much as possible and it stuck! We can be modern, as you are, but not forget what we were taught! Thanks Diane.

Ma'am, I am the daughter if a farm girl from Kansas that goes back about 3 generations if not more. Mamma, taught me to boil the potatoes in their jacket with the eggs to save time and energy. Then to continue as you do, but according to our taste. Lately I gave found out that the little egg cookers (cost about $10.00) are the best things for cooking eggs! From soft scrambled to hard cooked they can't be beat. The hard cooked eggs are easy to peel and I have never had 1 fail to come out oerfect. Since I am 75 years old it is a great help to be able to make things easier. I have also found out that you can cook eggs for a "fried" egg sandwich and it will also steam hot dogs. Best $10.00 I ever spent. Thank you for allowing me to ramble.

Dang! You can steam hot dogs in there (Dash egg cooker)?! Using the poaching or omelet tray?! Mind blown 🤯. (I should have figured this out since I hack a super simple basic rice cooker for all kinds of recipes thanks to the late great Roger Ebert book, "The Pot and How to Use It.") Okay, now I want to try "grilling" bologna or Canadian bacon on the hot plate of the egg cooker...I have two (🤣) so I guess one will now be part of my food test lab on the patio with the fire extinguisher ready.

I think the thing I like best about Meme’s videos is that she’s teaching how to cook - not just how to follow a recipe. I love the videos where she shows her buffet of food at the end. What a joy it must be to have a meal with her in her home!

I lost my mom as well when young. I was 11. Mom had to work hard, dad had had a stroke at young age when I was about 2. I loved her cooking. And years after she died, people would still comment on her cooking. Wherever she worked, as a cook, the place had more business on days she worked, and slacked on her days off. I wanted her home with me all the time. I do remember things she made that I loved so much, but lost her before she could show me how to cook. So I would try to copy and cook it over time until one day , it tasted the way I remembered it. It is awful losing your mom when little, isn't it? My mom didn't have much, there were 6 of us and I remember bits of conversations of her mentioning Corning Ware or some other things that she thought were pretty but couldn't afford. To this day I will look around second hand stores and all the bowls of mine in my kitchen are vintage from the 60's, when I was growing up, but things that mom had from before I was born. I'm sitting in my air conditioned house feeling lazy and remembering lazy summer days when I was young. My mom didn't have AC on hot days when cooking. She was 49 when she died. Dad died little later at 51. I have it better, I guess, but I really needed my mom, especially with 4 kids and trying to learn how to cook.

A deviled egg trick I learned if you get too much mayo in your filling: sprinkle in some instant potato flakes. The potato flake will absorb the extra moisture and you can't taste it at all. Actually, I now intentionally use the potato flakes because the filling ends up so light and fluffy. I also like a little grated onion (very little!) and salad shrimp in my deviled eggs. Mom always sprinkles paprika on her eggs too.

You are so right about the Pound Cake. When I was growing up my Grandmother always made us a Pound Cake on Friday to have for the weekend. And she always made me one on Sunday afternoon to take back to college for the next week. I was never sure if I had so many friends on my dorm floor because of my personality, or because I always had pound cake.

My Mom added the ACV too! She’s put about 2-3T in after draining the potatoes so they absorbed it. I could eat her potato salad every day for the rest of my days. Nothing compares. She also added a little ACV (along with a tiny pinch of sugar) to her Deviled Eggs mixture. If you haven’t tried that, you’d likely love that too. I always used her recipe & I was always the “designated Deviled Egg” bringer for every covered dish party at every work function I ever attended.

@@Nails-by-Jennifer I was born & raised in Atlanta (still here after 58 years) but my parents grew up in Alabama so I was born & raised on southern food. My Mom cooked 7 days a week. We had a meat & 3 every night of the week. What most had for Sunday dinner, we had all week long. As soon as I got in college I learned to call home for all the recipes. Of course I usually got “Well, I don’t really have a recipe. Just put it in until it looks right”😅😂

It's amazing how awesome boiled eggs, mayo, and mustard taste together!! 🥰 Whether in potato salad, macaroni salad, deviled eggs, or egg salad sandwiches, they taste yummy mixed together!! 😍 We always add a touch of onion powder to our egg mixture. We aren't big onion or pepper fans, but a touch of onion flavor with the mustard really enhances the taste, especially once they all get acquainted!! 😋

That potato salad looks so delicious. It reminds me of how my mom used to make it. The only difference is she would boil whole russet potatoes with the skins and everything then she would let them cool and peel them. She also used six eggs like you did with about the same amount of potatoes. She would use best foods mayonnaise, and instead of dill she would put smoked paprika on top or just regular paprika. One additional item that she added was 2 teaspoons of sugar to the potato salad. Looks sooo good. I just told my significant other last night that I wish we had some potato salad so now you have me wanting to make some and I have red potatoes on hand. 😊

I always cook an extra egg for egg salad just in case too. If I don’t use all the whites, I can pile the yolk mixture extra high in the remaining eggs. Yum! I always top them with a dash of paprika.😉

I always boil an extra egg and mix it in with the yolks so there will be plenty of filling for the eggs. Looks good, too.

Potato salad is one item that I want 12:46 my favorite mayonnaise used in”Best Foods” is my choice for mayonnaise. I live in the Central part of California. I have not seen your favorite brand of mayonnaise in any of our grocery stores. Many other foods I can tolerate a generic mayo in but potato salad really showcases this item- mayo. Thank you for this video. I use sweet pickle relish in my potato salad. I bet yours tasted terrific!!

Wonderful. I will be putting Dukes mayonnaise on my link Amazon store soon. So many people have asked about it, that can’t get it in their areas.😋🙂❤️

I love your videos. I learned something today. I don't use celery. I add radishes instead. I chop in my little chopper and it adds a different color too. As soon as l get a few dollars saved up l'm going to get your cookbooks. I'll never quit watching your videos. ❤

My late wife made her potato salad like you do but she saved a boiled egg and sliced it laying the slices around the top of the finished bowl of potato salad. Your cooking especially peeling potatoes reminds me of her ways.

Cream cheese instead of mayo, bit more mustard, dill relish, grated onion, sprinkle of garlic powder, and paprika on top. Must be made day before and refrigerated to set the filling and develop the flavors. My family will attack and demolish these almost before we can get dinner started. When my grandson was little he would ask for "evil eggs". Ahhhh such memories.

We put sweet relish in our deviled eggs and a touch of vinegar to give it a sweet tangy taste. Sometimes I put a little tobacco sauce (Frank's of course) instead of vinegar for a "kick". Of course you have to boil extra eggs. One egg for the tear emergency, plus 2 extra for um... quality check 😉 I like the bed of shredded lettuce. Wonderful idea.
