I wish my grandmothers were still here. I took their southern cooking for granted. I now look back at the dishes that stand out the most. I have a couple of recipes that I have saved that I will treasure always. As a child, I really did take their cooking for granted. You're truly an inspiration, and you inspire those memories with my own grandmothers.' I never really learned a lot of my grandmothers' recipes, but you inspire me to carry on my own recipes to share with my children and future grandchildren. I really miss that vanilla sauce and have no idea what it's called or how to find it-but if Woolworth's served them like that, maybe I can find it that way. I used to wait tables in high school at a small town cafe (that was over 30 years ago!). One of the desserts there were apple dumplings. I never got the recipe and both bakers have since passed on. I’m very excited to make these.

I do mine a wee bit differently. I bake the dumplings without the sauce but make a type of butterscotch sauce to use as a pour on . I can freeze the dumplings, make a batch, pull out what I need for a meal, make the sauce and we are golden!

Hi Mrs. MeMe! I made a similar recipe, I cut my apples with a apple quarterer, wrapped the quarters in croissant dough and poured water, brown sugar cinnamon and butter on top. Very delicious. I'm going to give your recipe a try. I've never used whole Granny Smith apples, I quarted Honey Crisp apples. 😊
