5:30 I knew a guy who, due to an unfortunate set of circumstances, had to accept a job paying significantly less than he was worth. His boss told him not to discuss his salary with anyone else at the company. "Don't worry," my friend said, I'm just as ashamed of it as you are."

The one(s) about *FastAPI* showed that most useless "recruiters" don't know their asses from their elbows, which is why they didn't qualify for real jobs. And companies that lose employees and just expect the remaining staff to "step up" and do the work they did, in addition to their own, should be shut down permanently. My aunt once spent several months in an "acting manager" position, feeling sure the permanent job would be hers. One morning, they introduced her to the young man they had hired for the job -- and they expected her to TRAIN him! She said "No way in HELL!" and quit on the spot. They said, "Who is going to train him?" and she replied, "Not my problem" -- on her way out the door.

Over the years I've seen this happen to women a lot, especially middle aged women. They're asked to "step up " and they do cuz they're team players , but never given the title nor compensation.

i also did acting supervisor, they hired someone for the job full time. I just looked at them and said "you have my sincere sympathy." "Why?" " I've been doing that job for the last 2 months."

Was favorite was being called into an interview and then being told nothing could happen yet and "the decision maker was out of the office".
@robstockton246320 күн бұрын
That usually means you were the “wrong” demographic - likely age or gender, but also possibly looks, race or perceived sexuality. It’s rare for a position to legitimately disappear after they’re already conducting interviews. It’s hard to think this way in the moment, but you probably dodged a bullet.

This happened near me. A plant for a prestigious international engineering and equipment company needed to hire a number of employees. Hundreds were interviewed. 35 were congratulated and told to report to the local community college for training. Paperwork was signed. They trained without pay 8 hours a day for 2 weeks. At the end, the company thanked everyone for their time and said they wished they could hire everyone, but they only had room in the budget for 10. The remaining 25 would be eligible for hire as positions became available. All heck broke loose. The police were called to prevent a riot. All of the new people had quit their jobs to attend training. They weren't eligible for unemployment compensation because they had quit voluntarily. A class action lawsuit was quickly filed. I heard they later settled out of court. As far as I know, the company never pulled that stunt again.

8:43 I still remember the poster on the wall at Jobsearch training. 100 applications, 10 interviews, 1 job more accurate would be 1000 applications 10 responses 1 interview that was in the early 2000's

I once attended an interview for an IT position where the interviewer asked my age. Totally inappropriate and illegal in my jurisdiction,, but OK I answered truthfully. He then excused himself on some pretext and left the office. After 20+ minutes I realised he wasn't coming back, that he understood that it was illegal to exclude me from consideration on account of my age, but that I was at least in their eyes too old to to participate in any IT related employment. Luckily I had engineering qualifications to fall back on! Oh yeah, post Covid, my engineering brain has turned to mush ....

My company puts the wage per hour as $A-B with B being a really high number and implies that how much you get paid is based on experience or performance. But reality is A is the legal minimum for the job and that's what you're getting, B is the maximum number you can get from penalty rates, over time rates, public holiday worked rates as set out by law. Basically you only get B on specific dates and circumstances, it is not your base hourly rates.

1. Jobs require skills and experience now, it is a bit crazy though. You can't gain without being there to get it. 2. A few times they always tell me that I am ''too smart for my own good''' or, I am too smartly dressed lol, or they don;t have the correct paperwork in dealing with people with disabilities. I don't understand this one, I thought all companies automatically had the knowledge and paperwork for this. 3. They always tell me to do research and repeat for an interview, so I do. I do all I can to learn about the company, everything that goes on and it always surprises me when the interviewer doesn't even know about the said thing. It is a bit odd since they work there, but I guess they don;t know everything.

o! I have one to share: guy calls me up. my interior design experience was on my resume which he'd seen on a job search site, so his interest was justified. i show up, and he asks if i have a copy of my resume 'cause he can't find his'. of course i did, of course i gave it to him, showing off my "organisational skills". should have walked out there and then: dude wouldn't invest in my potential. he was and still is, world-wide, the 3rd best realtor, yet he would not spend a few sheets of paper.

How can a company ask for 4 years experience on something that’s only been available for 1.5 years? Someone isn’t being honest about creating something. As for Tommy, shouldn’t they be referencing him as an employee?

I'm a boomer and I don't think other generations are lazy at all. The world has changed significantly-some boomers need to have some awareness & empathy. Personally, I honestly don't know how some younger people stay sane. Any person of any generation who makes unfair, sweeping judgements about an entire generation should be seen for the arrogant jerk they are.
