I was stunned when I saw MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA and read that the music was by John Williams. It was so different from anything he has written up to that point. Hauntingly beautiful, this music propelled the film great to masterpiece.

"She paints her face to hide her face. Her eyes like deep water. It is not for Geisha to want. It is not for Geisha to feel. Geisha is an artist of the floating world. She dances. She sings. She entertains you, whatever you want. The rest is shadows. The rest is secret."

Some years ago, I had just seen a performance by Yo-Yo Ma at the Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem, MA ('witch city"). My young daughter and I were getting into an elevator in the parking garage and literally bumped into Yo-Yo as he was exiting the elevator. He held the door open for us. Wonderful and talented gentleman.

He totally commands that cello. If you look closely, the instrument isn't even touching his body most of the time. And let's get real, he don't need no music. He barely even looks at the stand. And how could he? It's practically on the ground! Besides that's more than two pages of music, and not once does he turn the page! Nuts! I love how at 2:26 he doesn't quite hit the note the way he wants to, and you seem him look back at John Williams like, uhhh.

The piano part could be improved. The development section not too fond of. Good main theme however; catchy and memorable.
