No disrespect to the veterans, but there wasn't even a remote possibility that Japan or anyone else would be able to invade the US, Just take it for what it was. An enemy that needed to be dealt with, but never had a chance of invading your country.

Maybe I got triggered because my country was actually in that position back in ww2. Soviets tried to invade our country (Finland). The odds were not in our favor with the man power they had.

We also, of course, have air and sea units fighting against terrorist. There will always be air units, ground units, and sea units fighting. My Pop served in WW2, I know bits n pieces, but my grandfather a Vietnam veteran doesnt talk to me about pop often anymore. He was a driver for one of those half track thingos, like a tank withour a roof. He was an Australian WW2 Veteran, this past Anzac day, I wore his medals and got reminded about him once more. I remember little of him as I was probably 7 at his death, but I remember he made it a tradition to fill two big Jars full of silver coins over a year, he would then give them to my brother and I.. I kind of regret being too young and oblivious to what he had done, otherwise I would have spent more time with him, with the little time we had together, but I was only a kid at the time, who can blame me. Atleast I still talk about him and acknowledge him to this day.

What this man had seen when the front of his craft opened and before it shut, will be in his eye forever . He was one of the ones we will never get back. You can feel his strength yet his heart ache. Listening to this brave gentleman brings me back to my childhood (I was born in 1944) when my father would tell me his experience in the same manner as this man. My father was also a Chief Petty Officer in the navy attached to the marines and was in the same or similar group of warriors. He also invaded Okinawa (and fought at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal) as a medic on those beaches. Thank you Sir and thank you, Dad.

Every time I watch these films they bring a tear to my eye. Like many, my family too has a history from the World Wars. Watching these films brings back the memories of when I was a child hearing stories from my Grandfather. My Mom's Dad passed when I was very young. He was a WWI vet and was awarded 2 purple hearts. He was left for dead in France by the Germans and later recovered by the British. My Dad's Dad, WWII Vet Chief Gunners Mate, was on ships just like in this film. Hearing the stories he would tell me. He also was in the Korean War. He retired after almost 30 yrs in the Military, 2 years Army, 28 yrs Navy. There is even a story to how that happened. Both my Grandfathers have passed. I think of all they had to go through, all they had to see. Then today you look at the USA as a whole. How divided we are. It saddens me so much. People in my neighborhood don't even fly the Flag on National Days of Remembrance. Every Day I have my flag out and I have someone walk by at least a couple times a week and ask me why. I just look at the flag, and I look at them, and I say, So many people died so I could be here right now. That you walking enjoying your day could be here. People forget so easily. I choose not to. The conversation usually goes on a bit longer and they walk away. Please folks, don't forget your history. We are not a perfect country by no means, but we as a nation can do great things. "All Gave Some.....Some Gave All". GOD Bless You All 🙏 and Thank You for these Films. Thank You.

Word of advice only going to officer school is the thing to do I wouldn't tell anyone to go in the military at this time and point, I was in high school when we were just about to invade iraq and I was politically of sound and mind and I wanted to join the marines since I was little and I scored really high on the tests and I wanted to be a grunt and go on the ground and lead men but my recruiter was awesome and actually cared about me and told me to do something else and I told him I don't believe in this war and I smoked weed and he said I get it if u want to go through with it call me if not I won't bother u and tell the other recruiters to leave me alone cause I was a high target! And I backed out and I'm glad I didn't have part in that mess

I'm Polish. My grandma was figting in September 1939 in Poland. After beeing defeted, he has been fighting in Polish resistance between 1941-1945. He was shaving himself the same straight razor that army gave him in 1939 when he was drafted with 19. He passed away in 2010 and lifed round 90 year's. I keept this Soolingen straight razor as a suvenire. He was taughtes man I ever know. Never complained and always seeing bright sight of life. As you American's used to say: "greatest generation". Few lines about USMC. If I would born an American, definitely I would joint to USMC as a volunteer. Why? Because it's my favorite military unit. My uncle was a warrant officer in Polish Navy and once he gave me a book called "Storm over Pacific" (in Polish written by Polish historian and ww2 vet Zbigniew Flisowski). It's 2 volums and about 2000 pages. I had readed it in a week. It's a book about Pacific Campaign 1941-1945. I remember absolutely fascinating stories about amphibian assaults all over Pacific: from Guadalcanal until Okinawa. Because of this, I bought few books about this theater: I have memories of Eugen Sladge, biography of Nimitz, book about campaign on Guadalcanal and Okinawa. I'm not an American, but hell I would like to be a Marine. Once a Marine, allways a Marine! Semper Fidelis Devil Dog's!

And the reason why it’s special to me is because it has the signature of an old friend of mine that was a ww2 veteran who sadly passed away from natural causes two months ago.

if its a Garand, there is a website with serial number ranges for all the manufacturers and it'll allow you to figure out the month and year of production....roughly. My M1 was made in Feb 1943. i found it had been rebarreled at some point in its life since the barrel is dated 1945. that can be found in the slot in the upper hand guard where the charging handle slides back and forth

This is a great way to keep these stories for the future. truly the greatest generation. My grandparents grew up in occupied Netherlands, they have all passed on except my fathers mother. She still tears up thinking about the first day of the market garden operation, hiding as the paratroop transports went over their village on the way to Eindhoven, until they heard no bombs and saw the chutes in the sky. Those brave men who fought for people they didn't know, to free them from the boot of another. I doubt I'll ever get a chance to shake the hand of one of those men, but thank them all for giving my grandmother back her life, and the chance for our family to survive. And Thank you for bringing this channel to life and the chance for future generations to hear the stories.

Actually this man got shot at just as much. He was apart of a landing ship that dropped marines off under heavy fire 6 different times. And his ship loaded wounded Marines while under heavy fire to bring them back to the hospital ships. And Then later in the war, his ship was targeted by suicide planes! The Navy never faced more fiercer combat than it did in the second World War whether it was in the Atlantic or the Pacific.

This is the type of stuff that we should care about as a society. Not the fake celebrity bull shit, or reality tv. This should be something on tv that millions should be watching. Without these men, we would not live such comfy lives. I appreciate you guys making this content to honor and remember those who served. Everyone of their stories should be heard and it’s a shame they all won’t be. But you guys are getting as many as you can. I salute you for this.

Thank you for posting about WWII. My grandfather was in the Pacific theater from 41'-45', he never said one word at all about any of it. This helps me understand what he went thru. Thank you sir for your service.

Hearing him talk about having to go back out again really hits home. Here you are lucky to survive and basically being told you have to keep doing it until you die. Talk about pushing your luck. Then suddenly, just before you have to take your biggest risk, you're told it's over. What an emotional rollercoaster.

I love this page. What you are doing is so important. Both of my Grandfather' served in Europe and it's so important that we never forget the sacrifices they made in order for us to live our lives freely. It's so easy to forget that they were such young kids. According to US Department of Veterans Affairs statistics, 389,292 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II are alive. And that was 2019 so that number is even less. Please keep doing what you're are doing. Thank you again for sharing these incredible stories.
