Memorandum Of Understanding signing between the ANC and UFH

The University of Fort Hare is now the sole and permanent custodian of the ANC’s archival (digital and physical) materials. This commitment, initially officiated 30 years ago by late President Nelson Mandela and then UFH VC, Mr Sibusiso Bengu was cemented on the 30th of October, 2022, when UFH Vice-chancellor Prof Sakhela Buhlungu and ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa signed an addendum to the initial memorandum of understanding. Among the ANC collection persevered at the UFH National Heritage and Cultural Studies Centre (Nahecs) are artifacts from the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College (SOMAFCO) - an educational institution established by exiled ANC members in 1978 at Mazimbu in Tanzania; Chris Hani’s military boots; Govan Mbeki’s guitar and volumes of documents, letters and photographs.
