Memorial Day in the United States is for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. This holiday is observed on the last Monday of May.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War in the American South and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.

Been thinking about my good friend specialist Harris. We served together in Korea for about 9 months in 1967 then he put in for a transfer to Viet Nam. He was dead within a month. RIP buddy.

A lot of these young adults gave their lives for us. They gave up the chance to experience love, raise a family, and grow old around them so that we can experience those privileges. Let us all experience the things they never got to for them. I hope we will never forget the privileges these braves soldiers have granted us. May they rest piece and thank you for your service.

When you see our beautiful flag fluttering overhead remember this; it is not the wind that stirs it, it is moved by the dying breath of every soldier who laid down his life to defend it. My lifelong respect and gratitude for so precious a sacrifice. 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸

You don't have to support War, but you need to Support those who risk it all so you don't have to. Have respect and Pride for our Heroes. Veterans deserve the utmost respect also. The Govt. needs to change Veteran's rights and take care of them. They have more than earñed this. Rest in Peace Heroes, may you find Eternal Peace 🙏🇺🇲🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀

My father was a WW2 vet and a Korea vet. He killed himself in 2000 and his death hurt. I selfishly decided not to have a funeral for him and now I live with having denied him that last bugle call of taps and that folded flag. Forgive me, dad...you deserved that last honor.

MEMORIAL DAY DADS AT WAR AT WAR ! Where would I be without you dad My hero of night and day? I'm so glad you love my mother And think of us when you pray. The last time we had Christmas You reached for me with your hand. I looked at you, then made a wish That I might be just half the man. I love my father of Earth, And I love my Father of Heaven. It's a lot for me to love, you know For I’m only eleven. Mom and I sure miss you Since you left to defend our flag. When others ask, where’s your dad I can't help but share, cry and brag. Every child of God arrived to do good Every child of God must serve what they should. Every child of God shall always feel love Every child of God and Heaven above! The only good reason for fighting is to make the world safer. Other (more national) interests are poor excuses IMO. To the true departed heroes from the wars which were worth fighting, I say: Rest in peace and thank you for making the world safer.

American's died in Jamaica (my country) too but mostly during training. One such incident is about a B-26 Bomb with 6 U.S. airmen onboard during a training mission. Jan.7,1945 about a hour in their mission some thing went wrong and the pilot tried to ditch the plane in the sea but it stalled, went into a violent spit and crashed in foll view of residents of the near by fishing village of Rocky Point. Leonard Rookwood and other fishermen louch scul boats in an attempt to sescue them but only one mutilated body was recovered and handed over to U.S. personel from the army air base Vernam Field wear the plane was based. This story is largly forgoten these day but I made mention about it on line and was surprice to get a E.mail from the co-pilot's nethew. The story story was also heard on live radio in Jamaica on Christine Wright program on Megajamz 9fm and we are now friends on FaceBook.

MEMORIAL DAY SOLDIER - 2021 It’s not a priest that gives us our freedom of religion And it’s not a reporter that gives us our freedom of voice. It’s not any judge, lawyer, politician, preacher or teacher But the blood of a soldier that has sacrificed by choice. Our soldiers line up to be remembered As the best of the best at their job. They wish to be needed and depended on To save all we love from the mob. They risk their life and limb for liberty Standing firm against evil unwilling to break. To be part of something greater than themselves They are willing to forgo whatever it will take. Morals, faith, trust and courage Are what God’s best are made of. Defending what’s right; confronting what’s wrong Propelled by achievement, loyalty and love. THANK YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE IN YOUR HEART ! in April 1775 when the British tried to seize ammunition supplies and arrest the Patriot leaders. In terms of political values, the Americans were largely united on a concept called Republicanism, which rejected aristocracy and emphasized civic duty and a fear of corruption. For the Founding Fathers, according to one team of historians, "republicanism represented more than a particular form of government. It was a way of life, a core ideology, an uncompromising commitment to liberty, and a total rejection of aristocracy." America was found on republicanism.

@Marc von Borstel: Especially on this Memorial Day, 2021, would you please not post your intolerance of those whose opinions differ from yours? This is from a person, many regard as conservative, and who enlisted in the Navy in August 1967, when I could have avoided military service by attending college which many of my peers did.
