The "$850 car" that you looked at towards the end was actually a 1926 Dodge Brothers. In 1926, a Model T would cost around $300-$400 depending upon the body style.
@Racingnut247 ай бұрын
would explain why in modern money that 850 dollar car was a nearly 15,000 dollar car. Although even Henry Fords Model T in 1926 (in 2024's dollars) would of been a bit over 5k

A very good illustration of how far we've come in the last one hundred years! One item I definitely noticed at time index 10:25 was the old ball shaped kerosene lanterns they used to use to warn drivers at night of areas of highway construction. They were still using them in the 1950's when I was a child and when they redid the streets around our home they were something for a kid to see at night!

Two notes about the end of your video. The rusty old round containers (10:25) are called Smudge Pots. They were us ed all around the Yuma area, mostly in the critus groves, to keep plants from frost damage in December and January. I was born in the old Yuma County Hospital in 1953, and during my time smudge pots were a common sight. In later years they were replaced by two-blade aircraft propellers mounted on tall steel poles in the 'Groves' of mostly lemons and oranges. The props were driven by 8-cylinder gasoline engines, and in some cases 3-cylinder Detroit Diesels. Then at 10:44 there is an old 4-door with running boards and no top, lettered as "Red's Scout Car". As a kid we would see this car every year in the annual Yuma Jaycees Silver Spur Rodeo parade, often with the owne driving it. Red Rambo was a local celebrity and business owner. He owned Red's Roost bar in WInterhaven, California, Red's Place and the Birdcage bars in downtown Yuma. Just some trivia for ya from an old Yuma Desert Rat.

Now you’ve blown my mind. I relish all of your videos but this one was IT! I have autism and am completely nuts 🥜 about old cars, motorcycles and bicycles. I wrote papers and created presentations for the invention of the bicycle and motorcycle and wrote something short of a book about Henry Ford and his contribution to modern manufacturing and transportation while studying design in art school. I have a thing about rust. Staring at it makes me extremely calm. That’s called ‘stimming’. Anyway, clearly you’re not a car person or you would have spent several days here. For me it would, no it will, be a week or more. I read books about cars, motorcycles, bicycles and guitars all the time along with all kinds of esoterica like the biography of the pencil, the invention of the photocopier and I love 💗 reading appliance manuals and how to manuals for most anything. My father was an engineer and I learned a lot from him. I’ve been thinking about what you’re doing here on the TuboSphere and wondered if you ever thought about compiling your Sidetrack adventures into a book. You have a wonderful start and your unique perspective could be extremely interesting in a printed form. Keep up the great work and be safe. 👍☮️🌞🗺

Spent tons of time around this place in the '00s, when work was taking me to Yuma almost daily. One of my"T"s had a bunch of parts come from Cloud's "overflow storage" a couple miles up the road. Model "T"s are an absolute BLAST to run around in, and late models so freakin boring to drive, I can't even imagine why cars evolved much beyond them. To this day, (I'm 58) I've NEVER owned a car newer than '64, or that I didn't build myself. My current daily driver around Phoenix is a '29 Ford Model "A" pickup, slightly modernized to keep up with the trafic today.

Wow, a lot of vehicles....Reminds of a place in Yuma, AZ, late 1980's. The Family had an RV park/Antique store/pet store & some shops to rent out. I sold collectibles there for one "season" in Yuma (Fall/winter). The elderly gentleman collected everything, and in the "back" he had old wooden buildings filled with all kinds of old stuff. His intention was to put together a little town, complete with a train....I don't think the project ever really got started....at least this collection is open and available to see. Interesting, as usual.

WOW there is so much to look at here. I never seen apace with such a wide variety of things for the home & business. Those cash registers at time index 10:32-10:57 I very much remember those. I used the one on the far right when I worked out of a road side produce stand as big as the building they are in. They where fairly simple to use too, I can still remember how hard you had to push them keys or levers or what ever they called them. A lot of this stuff I remember as a kid & i did use some of them, I use to play in the model A & T's too way back in the old days when I saw them typically I found them in ally ways old gas station repair yards & junk yards too. They where everywhere when I was a kid. These machines where by todays standards as almost prehistoric & they where bare bone machines that did the job with LOTS of noise & lots of muscle power to make them work. I guess back then these where conveniences & made life easier & of that I have no doubt when you consider these antiques & their replacements over the decades making our life a luxury in comparison cause back then these machines required regular maintenance vs today where most machines & appliances weren't so demanding for upkeep. An excellent video full of nostalgia & in todays world a lot of this stuff can be restored & used if our electronic world fell apart. Thanks for taking the time to video all this marvelous stuff & I am glad some folks take the time to restore & keep these item for all to see.

There was a gas station near Mille Lacs lake in Minnesota, In 1965 my Grandfather and I stopped for gas. the pump was an old tower flask type. If you wanted 5 gallons, The attendant would hand pump 5 gallons up into the holding flask, then with the filler hose in the tank open the valve and the gas would gravity drain from the flask into your tank.
