The area looks so much better now to be honest, glad we've made change for the better.

I remember getting my first bike Christmas 1950 aged 6 from Tommy Braund, I seem to remember my mum paying so much a week, my first Numark wrist watch from Wards on Coatsworth Road when I was 7, again I think my beloved auntie paid so much a week tough times but happy times...Thanks for the memories.

This video made me happy and sad at the same time. My home where I grew up but which councillors let rot and then pulled down. Great people lived there with a great sense of community. We didn't have much but we had some great times. Thank you so much for posting this.

Oh man. What a nostalgia trip. I remember the 80's in Gateshead very well, as I was living with my Mam and Dad at the time on Rose Street, and this was my era. I moved to West Yorkshire in 86, where I still live, but do get back from time to time, and while Gateshead may not be recognisible in certain areas to me, it is still MY town. Thank you Trevor.

Some powerful and poignant images there. Change...... Some would argue it's for the better.... Yes the world was in a mess at that time, however life seemed a lot simpler. The video was sad to watch however it was also comforting seeing all those familiar places and remembering those times gone by. I was born in Springwell but lived most of my childhood at Deckham. I miss those times..... Many thanks for going to the effort of posting the video. It was a welcome nostalgia trip. Does anyone remember a shop called Sauls on Coatsworth Road?

I'd forgotten about Tommy Braund's bike shop on Coatsworth Road. I always went there for brake blocks, brake cables and inner tubes etc for my bike back in the 60's. Had to keep it in good condition so we could get up to Low Fell station to do a bit of train spotting. ps I was your neighbour from #7.

So you must be Peter, in Canada? It was you who got me 'in to' trains back then. You have a lot to answer for (in a very good way, I must add!) Thanks!! Have you seen my railway pictures (from Low Fell, among many others) on Facebook?

@@trev68e Yup I'm Pete in Canada , I don't do facebook but I have seen quite a few of your old photos from around the north east on various sites. Also Lesley Kelly forwarded a few pics of yours as well. Say hi to Eric next time you see him, it must be 15 yrs since I met up with him in lobba.

@@geordienufc3132 Hi Peter, well it's a small world. My mistake - I should have suggested you look at my pictures on Flickr (I have various Albums including several railway ones. There are some early photos at Low Fell from 1964 - perhaps you were there on those days too?) Has Lesley Kelly forwarded you a picture I took in 1967 of a parade going down our street? Your mam is sitting on the wall watching it. I could stick it on Facebook and Lesley could send it, if you like. I rarely see Eric these days but I will pass on your regards by email. Were you here as recently as 15 years ago? - when did you go over to Canada? Cheers!

Just as I remember it. Sad to see the site of my first home as a child, First Street. We lived to the left of the post box in the photo, opposite Ronnie McCarton’s shop

@trev68e2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind comments, Allison. That is Macadam Street. I have a similar one in the back lane of Brunel Street from 1991 but it's in b&w.

What's the street on 1:37? Is it still Bensham? Looks like a street off from Sunderland road
@trev68e3 күн бұрын
Hi Craig, the street with the train is Macadam Street, off Saltwell Road. The flags are celebrating the Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana in August 1981. The previous picture was Moore Street in 1980, with Sunderland Road at the bottom.

Do you remember bensham railway station beside dead mans arch. Is there any pictures of it
@trev68e3 күн бұрын
Hi there - Bensham station was closed to passengers in 1954, but some of the buildings were still there in the 1970s. I have a picture showing the remains in 1975. Are you on Facebook or Flickr?
