The access time required to access data from magnetic disk or tape is always more compared to registers, means registers are accessed more quickly by processor when compared to magnetic disk or tape

as far as I have observed there cant be any disadvantages of hierarchy bcoz its a general format for deciding size and speed of memories and there is not strict rule that every manufacturer has to use while following hierarchy, that use it the way they find it convinient.
