yeah its one of the ancestors of the nyckelharpa, the "esseharpa" theres also the mora harpa which is exactly the same instrument but only with a different shaped body. both have been named to the places where they've been found. there must have been a lot of different harpas throughout europe but they;ve only survived in eastern scandinavia and made a revival. in southern europe the same instrument evolved into the organistrum which became the hurdygurdy in the later medieval times =)

It's older. Instruments like hurdygurdy preceded violin, fiddle. And this is older than hurdygurdy, belongs to harp(a) family

Guilhem GRAILLAT-MANSUY it's a regional nyckelharpa ancestor. There were many different types of nyckelharpor with their own unique shapes, decorations and sounds. This is the finish esseharpa. whereas there's also the swedish moraharpa and the german bauernharpa or bauernschlüßelfedel
