I lived there in the late 1990s. For an Australian, it was an incredible experience, everyday. Walking in the woods above the misty cemetery at dawn replays in my mind like a movie scene now.

Several years ago I was invited by English friends to visit them in Dorset, I felt in love with the towns of the area, the old churches and the “Smallest Pub “ and of course ,my friends manor that is beautiful! We visited a swannery, and an old castle that I cannot remember the name. The two weeks spent there were unforgettable! I love England , so different from Italy from where I am from. Your video brought back all the wonderful memories I will always cherish!❤️👍🥰🤗🌺

Wow! I never thought I would see Dunster on KZbin 😃 I am related to the Luttrell family through my grandmother, on my mother’s side, from Australia 🇦🇺. I have visited twice, once in 1987, and again in 2012, loved it and the beautiful countryside around it. Stay at the Yarn Market Hotel, a wonderful place run by a wonderful family. Just for interest sake, I jammed a 2 pound coin in a crack in one of the beams of the Yarn Market itself 😁. I hope to retrieve it one day.

I am a finnish citizen. My best friend, a Scotsman, lives in Minehad and I took my family with me and we drove down through Europe and visited him the first time there in 2004. After that the visits became many and the kilometers we drove too. We always enjoyed going to Dunster and taking long walks on Exmoor. Somerset is indeed a paradise in UK. The Quantock road winding uphills an downhills with the branches of the trees growing over the road. My daughter was 4 years the first time and she loved Dunster castle because on the day of our visit there was a lot of happenings with performers of all kind and a flee market. She always talks about her memories from those visits. When she grew up her first trip abroad on her own with her boyfriend was going to Minehead and Dunster. They stayed in London 1 night and 6 in Minehead. I, as a former restaurant owner, appreciated the food and service at the Lutrrell arms. Your video brought back many fond memories. Thank you!

Similar for me, I had 3 aunts who lived at the Oval,17 West Street. This is the red sandstone cottage shown at 2:17. We spent many happy times there from the early 1970s up until the early 2000's. The village is a truly magical place.

There are many things far older than that in Europe. Think of the Roman Emire, prehistoric Stonehenge, The Acropolis (5000 BC) and many more. We have very rich history here and many rich cultures. . But the good news is, it's your history as well in a way! :) After all, the first Americans all came from Europe.

My mum grew up here in the 60s/70s and it sounded such an idyllic place to be. It was such a safe haven for children, to the extent that they could run around the castle grounds into the night. My grandpa was a painter, glass animal artist, and model ship builder so they lived on Church Street with his shop downstairs (house visible on the left of the screen at 7:46)! Mum worked at the Luttrell Arms as a teenager. Despite living in the North West, we still visit a couple times a year as we have family remaining in Watchet and Minehead. Late family members are also buried in the church grounds up the hill, overlooking the village and the ocean. Thank you for this lovely exploration. Seeing so many comments on here enjoying this magical place made my heart warm.

England is so damn cute & historic. I grew up in a village in South London that dated back over a 1000 years. We lived on Park Lane. There was also a West St & Mill Lane. We used to play at the old Mill which was disused but still deep & dangerous! There were many historic parks & the source of a river that ran into the Thames. A lovely & adventureous place to be a child. There were lavender fields, since revived & watercress grew in the streams. Now I live in S Florida where developers are still destroying ancient Native sites! Like the Joni Mitchell song - "They destroyed paradise & put up a parking lot"!

He had 2 galleries there at the time, one at the start of the Village and one at Castle gate.We bought a lovely framed print of Horner Woods and 2 smaller prints of Dunster. His work covers Somerset and Exmore. We also found in the gift shop a garden ornament of The Yarn Market that i still have .All to remind me of the most wonderful holidays in the most beautiful of counties. Another nice jaunt to a lovely part of England we used to call Home! Apparently you can get a rail connection from Taunton to Bishops Lydeard Station, which is where the WSR begins & you can disembark at Dunster - you don't have to be a fan of stream trains as this is a very enjoyable trip. The castle is well worth a visit -perhaps a bit later into spring, and takes a few hours to do justice. I have fond childhood memories of Dunster, especially of their clover honey! Funny the things that stick in your mind, I can still taste it now - or would like to! I grew up in Somerset and then we moved to the Quantocks, from Devon, for a little while before heading to The Borders - and then to the Far South... (This was after I lived in Chicago, of course - whoops - it's not you guys going there soon!) Keep safe & enjoying your travels.

Hi Tabitha, it really depends on what time of day we’re at a place and sometimes we are filming at different locations in a day so at some point it will be early. This was 10.45 on a Friday morning in Dunster so not really early. Also we try to avoid to many people about because they may not wish to be featured in the video and so we try to avoid filming others up close if at all possible. Thanks.

The name Somerset , comes from the ancient word for the people--- 'The People of Somer' because it is a mild climate, and Rains frequently on the hills and Moors.

One charming view after the other in this area! The Douglas Fir! As a child we always had Douglas Fir Christmas trees, which were trucked down to San Diego from Oregon. Sorry you weren't able to film a visit to the Castle in Dunster, though that would probably have been a whole video in itself. The Refectory roof at Cleeve Abbey is amazing! You covered a lot in this one, and I'm looking forward to seeing those Exmoor ponies next time. Cheers, guys!

It certainly has a lot going on in the area. I can see why people have it as a base. A lovely village to come home to after a day out on Exmoor. I wouldn't mind spending a few nights there to get a proper feel for it and enjoy the pubs and restaurants. When I saw the tree, I actually thought it could not really be the tallest in the country, it didn't look tall enough. Not sure what I was expecting mind you. Haha. The ponies were very sweet, they are supposed to be quite common but we struggled to find them on the moors.

Gents, as always, you produce another masterpiece video showcasing another masterpiece location. If a village can be this stunning on a rainy day, how fantastic it must be on a sunny day. Thanks for the parking information. I know I will have to drive on my next visit to the UK, and this is extremely helpful. All the best!

No problem Todd, we like to try and make it as easy as possible to know where you need to go. It’s not a place you can visit easily without the car for sure.

Sold! Looks like you were there just before or after the full tourist season: looks too charming and has too much infrastructure (medieval and modern) to be so empty. Such places can seem all your own when you're a visitor, especially if you're a determined Yank like me. 😉 Hard to believe such a place is even real. Closest I've seen to this in St Davids, Wales, another cozy little village (I know, technically a city) with a massive church looming over it, that famous Norman-built pile. Anyway, if for some reason I ever get to Somerset, I have to visit Dunster!

I'm finding this very hard to watch it's absolutely beautiful, and I've been here years ago when my children were small...and I've reached a point in my life where this is all important to me the beauty the history and I just want to be there right now soaking it all in...I'm staying Glastonbury in a few weeks so I'm going to re visit this place because I'm bubbling with excitement 😊
