As a christian i hear the words and feel like this needs to be applied to my life more than ever. "I just hope they see you when they look at me. Cause you are everything i need to be." just hearing that one line tugs at my heart, i don't want people to just see me but i want them to see Christ in my words and actions. without a doubt this is the best song on the album in my opinion!!

Travis Clement It's not ignorant to have your own beliefs. If anything I think it's ignorant to have a religion considering 90% of the time you were brainwashed into it as a kid and we all know kids will believe anything their parents tell them and people just cling onto it because it feels good and it's nice to have it. I mean, think about it. If you never heard of any religion and after you graduated highschool you were allowed to choose freely without any influence. How many religious people would there be then? (Not a lot) But at the end of the day, I think when people look at you, any goodness they see should be credited to *you*, I never get why people want to credit their deeds or hard work to God, they did it themselves. They became that person themselves. But I suppose old habits die hard and religion will continue to be passed along and held onto for the sole reason that we're taught it as kids so it's a fact to us and that makes us teach it to our kids as well and it's a never ending cycle.

People that are hating on this album, by far, these are the best lyrics they've written. Matty is just being himself and writing about what he finds important, versus The Hollow (which was written from a bunch of different perspectives). And I feel that he's singing lower than he used to because he realized he can't sing super high live every night (aka, why they've never played The Abandoned live). The lyrics are the seriously the best in the genre for me right now.

I'm not religious, in fact, I hate religion, but I like how Matty wrote the lyrics in such a way that you can interpret them to be a significant other or another religion's deity. The same with the rest of the album. Again I'm an atheist and HATE religion, but love the style and way Matty writes lyrics. Big fan.

I am here because I can't let go of someone from my past, someone who ment so much to me and the thought of her being led by the ways of the world and bad influences tears my heart appart. I loved her and tried to hold on to her for too long. She took a very important piece out of me that I can't seem to get back. I can't be happy knowing she used to be so much to me and now it's gone. The reason I came here is because I'm trying to figure out who I can be without her. This suffering will go away someday ... but until then I will figure out who I need to be.

My interpretation of when Matty says "I just hope they see you when they look at me because you are everything I need to be" is having someone who inspires you to be a better person; such as a parent, sibling, or even your favorite musician. And that's what i find so amazing about this album. So many different ways to interpret the lyrics. Just wish everyone complaining about the lyrics because "they're about god" would see it that way too. Matty said that he wrote most of these songs because god helped him get through his problems, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it has to mean the same thing to us (the fans). This is definitely my favorite album from MMF. :)

Slow songs on this album are so well written. They show they've been thoung a lot. The melodies are perfect. Fast song are good but in certain times memphis do rare things but still awsome. Thank you for this song guys.

I never heard this song, but looking at the lyrics, they really explain me. Especially this line, "I just hope they see you. When they look at me, because you are everything that I need to be. My heart is heavy & torn, weighed down by all my mistakes & the chains I've worn." That part, right there, my friends are everything to me. My heart is weighed down by mistakes, but I'm happy, although, they all remember my mistakes; nothing good. I've been put down; a lot, but I'm used to it. Life isn't perfect, I know it's not. Nothing is perfect, like us. We are broken; imperfect. Memphis May Fire, you guys are amazing. You guys have perfect lyrics, that explain so much, in just..amazing ways.

I am in love with this album! I've been a huge fan of this band since even their first singer. Matty really inspires me to be the better Christian I know I should be and he is really helpful when it comes to my depression issues. And also, everyone has their own beliefs. No one has the right to dis other peoples' religions. At the end of the day, these are very good songs with very good meanings and it doesn't matter if you believe in God because the songs still have very deep and powerful meaning to them and everyone should just be kind and respect each others views on this album.
@CassJSantos10 жыл бұрын
I think Matty is trying to communicate that we put conditions on how we love one another, we'll often demand "this" from others for "that" in return. God's love is not like that. It is "Unconditional". We bring nothing because He is everything. He is the love and perfection we are all looking for.

Like Matty said, he isn't trying to shove religion down your throat. He says he made these songs for people to relate to, and while maybe people who support the Christian God, it would make more sense. It still can mean a special or important person in your life. It doesn't have to be what he's implying, he said that you can take it in a way that helps you most.

I don't understand why everyone compares a band to their older music. If they sounded the same as their older music, people would complain that they sound too similar. I mean, I love their music and the music they produce fits them and works for them. Why change up something that's working? Why change up something they clearly enjoy? Calm down, if you want something different go get something different, stop complaining about it because it will get you nowhere.

I'm also sort of not liking the lyrics to the new album. But Matty loves god and I can respect his beliefs. I just come up with a different meaning for myself since I don't believe in god. He's talking about god helping him through things/believing in him & wants others to also I'm sure? For me I make it about someone important in my life that has gotten me through a lot & even though they aren't in my life anymore they made me who I am today. The lyrics can mean something else for non believers easily. And that's why I don't mind the lyrics to much to this album, because like I said. It can have several meanings depending on your view/beliefs.

I praise jesus and so does matty and the band..i loved them when they first came out and im so happy that this album is almost like a christian album in a way..he doesnt expect everyone to love the lyrics, He knows he might even lose fans, (god please help them and show them eternal love is real, through music and friends and family!)He writes his lyrics because god gave him talent and it should be used praising god..this band is just great. Thank the lord and thank you Memphis May Fire!

Evan Procaccini Yeah that's all nice. But they also claim that god gave them their talent, which is implying unrealistic ideas. Only MMF song I've really gotten into was "Miles Away", and this album is really giving me the same vibe as the rest of their music, except this album is less lyrically complex. I completely respect the people who hold these guys as their pride and joy, and I think they are amazingly talented, they're just not my cup of tea. I feel like they progress very little from album to album, and kind of stick to a "not broken don't fix it" mentality, and that's fine, but without evolution, this is a band that, in my opinion, just begins to become tiring. I do, however appreciate the use of orchestration on this album and the use of blended screams and power choruses.

Michael Sweet Because the lyrics are largely based in Religion/Christianity. They aren't all, I know that. I also understand that Matty is Christian and I think it's awesome that he wants to use that to help people, but for people like me who don't believe (or are agnostic, as I am), it can be very off putting. Nothing against the band, but it is what it is.
@amp729610 жыл бұрын
***** I respect your beliefs, but I do not share them. Religion/God is something that I have given a try and have come to the conclusion that it is not for me. I don't proclaim to be agnostic for show/to be tough, it is genuinely what I believe. I don't harbor any resentment for people like you and Matty who do believe, I only ask that I'm not criticized for it. In plain terms, I'm not interested in having religion thrust upon me.
@michaelsweet742410 жыл бұрын
