Staring at the wall,
I never thought this would be so hard.
How could have I been so close and never known you?
I never knew, I never knew you at all!
You will always be my father but I hope you know,
It's your fault and I'll never know what that means.
You left a void that never could be replaced.
I am dying inside but you will never see!
I always had hoped that you did not want it this way,
But no matter how hard I try you always pushed away.
You said you loved me but...
How was I supposed to know
(How was I supposed to know)
When you left here,
You left me here alone?
Do I ever even cross your mind,
Just for second?
Do you know I'm alive?
You know I would let you in but you threw everything away.
So tell me what did you get from all of these years of pain?
You have no clue what I've been through,
But I guess that you wanted it that way!
How was I supposed to know
(How was I supposed to know)
When you left here,
You left me here alone?
Do I ever even cross your mind,
Just for second?
Do you know I'm alive?
If you would've been there,
If you would've stuck around.
If you would've been there when I needed you,
You would've been
You would've been so proud!
How was I supposed to know
(How was I supposed to know)
When you left here,
You left me here alone?
Do I ever even cross your mind,
Just for second?
Do you know I'm alive?

its incredibly how matty has a great relationship with his dad and everything but wrote this song for all of those he knew who didnt and wanted them to have a song that would touch them this mouch

i heard the guitarist wrote a lot of the album, maybe that's it?
@shadowrideer

Luis Barbosa yes, kellin mcgregor was also a major writer for this album, but i read somewhere that matty wrote it. i cant tell you where it was so i dont know for a fact that it is true, so that could very well be the explaination

Maybe it was kellin's idea for the song and matty just happen to rip the words from his mind out? who knows, either way awesome track!

***** i know all of them helped write but i could have sworn i read an article where matty said that he wrote this song in particular for the reason of giving those who had no fatherly relationship a song to relate to. Its very possible he wrote it with the guidence of the other members as well, but yeah, i think their whole band is bery involved in the writing process

I cry every time I listen to this song, it reminds me of my mom. She was always out drinking and cheating on my dad while my dad was home taking care of me and my sisters.. She finally left, and honestly I don't miss her at all.. I'm just lacking that mother figure, y'know?

No matter how many excuses a parent may have or have justified they make themselves, and no matter how much you love that parent, there will always be a feeling of abandonment when they leave. Single parents deserve gold medals.

My favorite genre will always be heavy metal. It's viewed as one of the most violent genres, but it's actually the most loving, genuine genre there is, along with the fans. The songs have such deep meanings that a lot of us can relate to. this song is an example, and it really speaks to me. My dad was an alcoholic. He was physically and emotionally abusive to my mom and I. He had horrible anger issues and usually took it out on me. He's the reason why I have so many internal and external scars, and I'm only thirteen years old.

+Maddie lewis What really grinds my gears is when they say all it is, is a bunch of violent screaming people who worship Satan. Don't know if you've gotten that from people, but before I got into the heavier scene that's what people told me so I stayed away. If you ever get that just print out the lyrics to a The Amity Affliction song Lost and Fading or Shine On or any Memphis May fire song and watch their expression change. The lyrics are what draw me into a band. That and a good screamer/singer with great guitar. Memphis May Fire has grown and are far from violent.

See? It's music like this that I can appreciate. To hell with Lil Wayne and Drake. This kind of music sends a message, a message with a hell of a lot more meaning then sex, drugs, drinking, and money. This music actually means something. Music isn't only supposed to sound good, it's supposed to make a change with it's lyrics.

Ive listened to very minimum MMF songs, but once i heard this song, i instantly fell in love. Im an adoption child and the story goes my "parents" wanted to try without protection, mom got ptegnant, dad hightailed it, and mom was forced to put me up. Idk about any of you other adoption guys and girls, but ever since i found out, ive always had this sense of Darkness inside of me. Like im Supposed to be like my father or mother. Idk, it could just be me, but it scares me alot

My dad recently left back to Mexico, he would always treat my mom, sister, and i like shit. Went through a lot with him. Last time I saw him was like a few months ago, he just stared at me, didn’t try to say anything to me, he left, and he never said goodbye to me. I don’t hate him and I don’t wish him bad, but I just wish he could’ve said something to me.

Have faith, brother. Your Dad was overwhelmed by some spirit of shame. He is not as bad as you think. But he is lost, and he needs your prayers, and your forgiveness. Believe it or not, you will need your forgiveness more than anyone. You will have to overcome a spirit of rejection. It is important to remember that Jesus died for your sins. and he died to set you free from the bondage that is rejection.

I remember when they just started out and I promoted them on twitter. They've come so far. Great talent.

my real parents left me for drugs.. they never cared, they completely messed up my childhood.. ive found a new home, and a new family that loves me.. i wish they could only see how much better i am, and see the pain on their faces for a change...

OHMYJESUS. If you have surround speakers or surround headphones, close your eyes and take in the sick bassdrop in the beginning. It even made my fish cry.
