Best documentary EVER! I am SO proud to be from the Memphis, TN area! This doc is so uplifting and inspirational for all of our youth who are faced with hard decisions and peer pressure from gangs, drugs, dropping out or getting expelled from school, the revolving door of juvenile detention or the county jail, lack of real job skills, & lack of quality safe educational environments. Jookin can act as the much-needed catalyst to spark a change in a young persons' mindset, an outlet & safe haven for emotional expression, & an encouraging supportive social circle to give you stability, trust, reliability, responsibility, and most of all self-confidence to do more, want more, and to become more! Kudos to the producer, director, & last but not least the INCREDIBLY TALENTED dancers. I'm ecstatic that all of the dancers & UDig Academy have been able to monetize their talent and use it to sustain themselves. All too often years later when you follow up with those featured in a documentary film, you find the subjects worse off, impoverished, in jail, or dead upon follow-up. Positive things are happening in Memphis! #MemphisTNStandUp #MemphisJookin #MemphisGangstaWalkin #Choose901 #SmileMemphis

one of the most realist documentaries I've ever seen. As a jooker myself in a crazy violent city I can relate to all of this. warping into a different world and style deep into the dance is true and feels awesome. so much positivety y'all. keep it up

I find this to be amazing! This is proof that no matter what evil is placed before us to keep us down we will create a way that will lead us out from the darkness presented to us. As Maya Angelou so eloquently stated, "Still I (WE) Rise!" Great job Ellis!!!!

Jookin creative feeling the dance. The narrator of this video I don't know if I agree with no other dance is like it. I grew up in the Bronx and it looks to me like the electric Boogaloo and break dancing evolved to Jookin. I loved it!! Like watching!! Better this than that.....like the young brothers said in the video!! So keep up the good work!!!

This is an extremely impressive documentary! The angles, editing, cuts, expression of ideas, and all while capturing the culture in such a positive and upbeat light, while giving each individual room to be themselves fully. I will definitely not forget the name Ellis Fowler! I am subscribed for sure now! :) much love ! Great work! & on a personal note, Thank you so much for this piece of art. I grew up in this culture , and when I was about 17 , I got introduced to Grateful Dead festival culture , and I really see a huge parallel between Memphis underground culture and grateful dead underground culture. It’s like the gentleman said -it’s almost like church. -It’s spiritual! Thanks again! Cheers! 🙏🥂🌞

Most underrated shit ever. I'm from California and all i watch and listen to is memphis. I'm watching this after dicovering a lot of different music from memphis and one thing I noticed is there are a lot of classic tracks from memphis that have hardly any views, but new school shit that's trending got millions of millions of views. For example, and no disrespect to Yo Gotti, but I always heard that song "down in the dm's" yea it's good, but got sick of it real quick, just wasn't the kind of music I listen to. But I heard his earlier stuff which most people probably don't even know about and I wouldn't doubt if the people even like it just cuz these times we live in are so much different. Listen to "Lil Yo - Creepin" that's what i like. 22k views, "dj squeeky - Trick I'm from Da Mound" barely 1k views......it's literally mad stupid how slept on memphis shyt is......they got my full respect though and I do believe if more people knew about jookin, these youngsters who grow up seeing nothin but gang shit and who is supposed to be their peers doing all this stupid shit, they grow up following their foot steps, everyone trying to be in a gang nowadays, nobody dancing and singing they use auto tune bullshit fucking garbage. ☠
