I live in Oslo Norway and this summer i finally got my motorcycle license and bought an old 1996 1200 sportster and have ridden it some 4000km in two months now. Bought a small bikini fairing becuse of tiring wind buffeting but its not enough of a diffrence. Think ill buy this Shield. looks good! keep up riding m8

Joe, while researching windshields for my Sportser you happen to do your first review on the Del Rey so I purchased one & am so happy with it. Hey Man your review made me get one for my 2019 Iron 883 and works perfect for me. I have the same as your black. Cold air off my chest, quick release and looks good compare to others. I got mine from our local harley dealership they help me get it for me as i am having a hard time ordering online as i dont want to order a wrong attachment.

It's a great shield for sure! Finding the right mount is a challenge because there are so many bikes Memphis Shades makes them for. Nothing really compares to this shield as far a looks and usefulness.

I'm catching up!! Any kind of wind protection makes such a huge difference on a big trip, especially if you want to do any kind of interstate riding. Lazarus didn't have a windshield at all, so when I started riding I just got used to it, THEN I got a Honda Shadow with a big windshield so going back to not having one was really weird lol Like you said it makes rides a little warmer in the cold, but it's also huge for reducing fatigue on long rides.( duh you also said that lol) I will say when I switched back to Lazarus it was nice to not have to look through a piece of plastic at the scenery right in front of me, but going over 70 felt like I had to hold on for dear life lol

I bought this for my Scout from your first review. Great shield. I think it is perfect and I am 6’2”. Wind hits me at the top of my helmet which is not a problem for me. Definitely took it off my chest. Keep up the great work. Love your honest reviews.

I used to have a mini shield on my sporty but found the wind was just redirected downwards causing increased buffeting around the wheels and lower bike, so much so it was pretty scary at higher speeds. Sold it on now. Thanks.

Yes I’ve ordered one the Delray 13 and I wasn’t sure how much they would blow you around I’ve never used a shield before but it’s got to a point now as many years as I’ve been writing I don’t really particularly like icy cold wind smashing me in my chest my home it’s pretty aerodynamic so it works out pretty good but I’m trying to eradicate that chest beating that you get when you were doing freeway speeds

It’s a good shield. My height and rider triangle really work with it. You can adjust the height, but It may not be the best shield for really tall riders.

Great review. I have been using it for around 4 months, and it really makes a difference. However I do get some buffeting on my helmet. Now I usually ride with out it (I live in Florida, so the cold is not a problem around here) .. I am 5'6" with stock seat. Thanks for the video!

You rode with a motorcycle through route 66....*ends video* 😂. Anyways man love the videos reason on why I got into bikes. Finally got my m1 license too. Just saving up for a bike. I want an iron but the company I'm working for isn't approved by my bank(said the finance guy at Harley). I'm also 21 which isn't the most attractive to banks. 21 is an attractive age to all except banks. And insurance companies. If you decide to sell your bike for a extremely low price I am your man haha. Once I get my Harley Davidson iron 883 I will be sure to get the del rey sports shield WITH the locking mechanism. Also test rode an iron when I was going to buy the bike at Harley and left that same day empty handed. Much love from Cali 🤙🏼 ride safe.

Thanks, man! I hope the Del Rey works out for you. I'm recording audio separately using a PCM recorder. I've used several different ones, but I'm pretty sure I used the Tascam DR-05 in this video. I sync up the audio while editing in Premiere Pro and export it to Audition to tweek the quality and then bring it back into Premiere. It's a lot of work, but definitely worth it.

Could you touch one the tints of the windshield. The website doesn’t do the best getting into detail but I notice yours is dark smoke on the bottom and clear at the top. Is that the options of the del Rey compared to the del rio? Great video and thanks you.

That tint change is called a gradient and I love how it looks. Unfortunately it looks like Memphis Shades has discontinued making gradient shields and now only sell clear, light smoke, and dark smoke.

And , also that particular shield because of its size is easier to pack down on the back of your bike and you are on the road if you decide to take it off,,, with no where to put it except with you on the bike but off the bars and packed in your bags , or its own bag ,, or wrap it in a blanket and bungee it down!!!!!

That's awesome, Joseph!! It's a great shield. Those are the Biltwell Chumps. I have three videos in a Playlist titled "Biltwell Chumps" that you might be interested in. I didn't have to change the throttle or clutch cables, but I definitely had to change the brake line. I have ABS on my Iron, so that added some complexity to the process, but I was able to do it myself and save about $450 by doing so!

Those are the Fly Racing Ignitor heated gloves. They're great at keeping tops of your hands warm. I ended up selling them when I bought a bike with heated grips, now I have another bike without heated grips and I wish I had them back.

Where do you have it routed? Try a few different locations around the shield. I had the same issue, but played with it until I found one that worked.

The point about seeing over not through the windshield is one that not a lot of folks realize. Was it easy to pack when you took it off during the long ride?

Nice review! Few question - does your helmet buffle more with del rey? I’ve got some bad experience with my windshield (around 14”) and bell bullitt - with speed above 90km/h it’s almost impossible to ride! Helmet starts to vibrate like crazy I’m looking for shield with wind line below or above head.

Honestly, I think that may be more because of the helmet. I can't say for certain because I've never used the Bell Bullitt. Other things can affect buffeting as well. Your riding position especially. With my Shoei Quest, for my height and riding position with my aftermarket seat and handlebars, I get zero buffeting. Even with speeds as fast as 125km/h. The best advice is to find a shield that meets eye level at the zenith.

The Del Rey looks good on the Sportster. I'm impressed. You mentioned the Cafe fairing, I've been thinking about the Cafe or the Gauntlet. Have you seen any Iron 883's with a Gauntlet, or talked to anyone who rides with one? I'm kinda leaning toward the Gauntlet if it isn't too big for the lil Sporty.

It is! There are a lot of different mounts, so it can get confusing. The best approach is heading to the Memphis Shades site and looking over their bike-specific mounts for the shield you want and then scouring the internet for the best price.

The key to eliminate or reduce buffeting is to have the top of the shield just below your eye level. Adjust the brackets on the forks to make that happen. If your upper body height and seat height are too tall too tall to make that ha, then a taller windshield would be better.

I notice your front turn signals are handlebar mounted. I own a 48 with signals mounted high on the triple crown. Will the Del Rey work with a 48 with signals relocated to the bottom of the triple crown? Harley sells the signal relocation hardware.

Each mounting kit is bike specific. Memphis Shades includes a signal relocation kit with the mounts for the 48. I'm not sure where they get relocated to though, or if it's similar to Harley's. @Paul Anfone I had it angled in line with the forks and the top of the shield at eye level. Things like this are really dependent on your bike setup and your height. Buffeting is a funny thing that can be difficult to figure out. The helmet you're wearing can impact this too. If the shield is too high or too low sometimes wind can move between you an the inside of the shield (that's why it's called buffeting). Wind can also come from below. It also may not be the the shield for you. I used two others before I decided on this one for my Iron. I've had my Africa Twin for a few months now and I'm still trying to figure out my setup.

I'm just shy of 5'10. But a lot of factors will impact this. Your ass to top of your head hight, how high your seat puts you up, and how you have your rear suspension set up will all be a factor. To narrow that down a little bit for you, my ass to head is 38" and my step up seat sits me about an inch higher than the stock seat.

Amazon has specific product listing parameters and their fitment recomendations can be confused sometimes. If you look at Memphis Shades site it shows that the trigger lock will fit all Irons 2009 - 2019. The product number MEB8919 if you want black. So that link I have will fit your 2014 (the forks are the same). It can take a bit of fiddling to get the hight you want. If you you get it, let me know how it workd for you.

@@dags6439 i honestly don't feel too much difference from the stock. I read a while ago cutting a windshield removes the "flip" at the top of the glass and you will get buffeting. I bought mine from J.P.cycles , they take returns if you are not happy. H.D. makes an 18 inch and I read great things about Klock works billboard flare. good luck.

If you're talking about the Gauntlet fairing then the answer is yes! The trigger locks are bike specific and the plates are fairing or shield specific. I could put the gauntlet on my bike with the trigger lock on there now. I may actually do that!

Hey, James, thanks for watching. I’m 5’10”. I do have the 15” Del Rey. It’s perfect for my height. The key is to get the shield just at eye level. You can adjust the mounts on your forks to fit your needs, though that’s more difficult for taller riders. You might be on the edge of that. If so, I’d go with a taller shield.

I am WAY overdue on putting out a video for this. Look for one soon. Short answer is I have a GoPro Hero 5 black on my helmet held there with Sugru. I have a Hero 4 session on the handlebars. I record the audio separately with a Tascam DR-5 and sync everything up in Premiere Pro. I do a little bit of mastering and multiband compression on the audio and touch of color correction and there you go.

The del ray is adjustable, but it’s not about overall height. My torso is likely not the same as another rider that’s 5’10”. Also your weight and suspension setup will be different than other riders. Look at the height of the shield and if it meets you at eye level based on your forks, then it will be a good fit.

Thats a rude way of asking what my height is. However, my height doesn't tell you shit. There are too many factors including your torso and neck length, how high your seat puts you, how you position the mounts on the forks, and even how you sit on the bike. As I said in the video, you want the top of a windshield to be at eye level. I gave you the specs of the shield, what more do you want? Do your own measurements and figure out if it works for you.

I don't know what headlamp visor you have or how it mounts. If it mounts to the forks, then the answer is no, but the Del Rey would replace your need for a headlamp visor.
