Jom, you did our city proud. As a Memphian, I have not yet been to our relatively new Central Station hotel, so I appreciated you covering that. Also, as an AutoZoner I was thrilled you showed our office on the river! You are welcome back any time.

I love exploring on a bicycle! This video was shot perfectly and really gave a good view of what it's like to cruise the streets of Memphis on a bicycle.

Hi Jom, we cross today in lake apopka and I said hello to you. I was hoping you stop, but you were going at good pace. Anyhow was happy to see you in person for a split second. And you look taller than I thought! Lol
@GravelCyclist4 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, I remember, I was zoned out thinking about something when we crossed paths. Hopefully you heard me say, yo, or something in return, haha. 5'11" when I last checked, probably 5'10" now that I'm over 45 years of age!
@C.Medina4 жыл бұрын
Lol, yes, you say hi back. I'm 5,9 almost 5'10 and you look way taller haha. Hopefully you got a good ride today, it was a beautiful morning. When I saw you 20 minutes before I crash in the curve between lake apopka trail and clay island rd. I slipped in some rocky moss that guess grow this week during the rain. Big rash in my left leg and butt cheek, but it was good ride after all. Glad to see you, hopefully next time can talk to you for a bit.

That truly sucks, very sorry to hear that. I have not ridden Lake Apopka for many years, so I took it more carefully than usual. Hopefully, you will heal up fast, and yes to some chit chat!

Great video! We are in Stuttgart not far from Memphis. Mud island was really neat in the day. They used to have water flowing down the scale river. Our kids enjoyed playing there. You were also really close to the place were Martin Luther King Jr. was shot. There is a civil rights museum there now.
@GravelCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I rode past the museum, but a camera issue aka user error, meant I missed recording it.

Awesome perspective of small US cities in the "raw" (not a tourist commercial 😆), keep up the excellent work and tour. 🍻

Glad you got to visit! Did you ride across the Harahan Bridge (where you saw the train)? That's the Big River Crossing. Small gravel loop on the Arkansas side and miles of river levee-top gravel roads.
@GravelCyclist4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, unfortunately, I had limited time because morning rain ruined the original plan. However, I've noted this and will definitely check that out next time I'm in town. Thanks for the tip!
@StuartJanssen4 жыл бұрын
Y'know, I saw you covering a bunch of towns between Northeast Arkansas and here, presumably heading back toward Florida, and I wondered if you were gonna hit us. Had I known, I could have shared some of the gravel routes I have (they're all on the Arkansas side of the river, far roads and whatnot). The trolleys don't run on the river track (currently) but they're supposed to be working on expanding service.

Hey Stuart, no worries. My travels are quite random, and my Memphis visit was a rest day of sorts. I'm going to shoot a behind the scenes video soon so people see what goes into some of these road trip / tours... Appreciate the info on the trolleys.

Is it me or is Jom independently wealthy? This cat rides in alot of places. I'm envious.
@GravelCyclist4 жыл бұрын
I wish I was independently wealthy. I work a regular 40-hour a week job but I have a lot of vacation time. Unfortunately, there is no Mrs Gravel Cyclist, no kids, and I have plenty of flexibility. My life is definitely not for everyone, but bliss for some!

holler next time! There’s lots of farm road and gravel across the bridge and northwards.

Noted, several folks have mentioned that. This was a recovery day of sorts and the weather was utter crap in the morning. But... I will return. Thanks!

Do you make any of your city tour treks available for us to see? I was curious how you made it from Mud Island to Graceland in one piece??
@GravelCyclist4 жыл бұрын
Hey Randy, I generally pick what I think and hope are quiet back roads when I route from various points in the cities I visit. Someone else questioned my safety riding through that part of town, but I don't research that sort of thing usually, and just go ride my bike. Ignorance is bliss, or I live in a different world in my head?

Who would want to ride a bike through the worlds largest ghetto. 😢
@GravelCyclist Жыл бұрын
I wasn't aware of any ghetto, I had no problems, and rode about town showing a decent chunk of Memphis.
