@BuffaloPros Money is the key if Memphis, Tulane, UTSA South Florida are going to take all their athletic sports teams men and women to Idaho,Oregon, Washington, California it better be a substantial amount of money over the coming years. Remember the G5 is only going to get 1 school out of 5 or 6 conferences. As fans we have dream Scenario about realignment ,but we have to remember these are institutions and businesses. Memphis would be stupid to leave the AAC to go PAC12 without a tv contract or revenue answers. I know the fans think Memphis deserves P4 status. But they are not going to get there in the New PAC12, they're be just another G5 school trying to get that 1 spot in the playoffs.
@jamiethornton61012 ай бұрын
I think the problem was the exit fees. I'm not sure why they didn't tell Memphis/Tulane just come one year later in 2027, when they could leave for 10M. If the PAC is willing to pay 2.5M, that means Memphis would only have to pay 7.5 M. Memphis isn't getting in the Big 12 or ACC as it is now. If they got in the ACC, the top 10 schools will have left for other conferences. It would be worse than the new PAC.

All of my life I've been a Memphis Tigers fan(over 4 decades). This decision has sucked the fandom out of me! I've tried for decades to view the positives about the university and the city, in general. But after being overlooked time and time again--this city, when the ball's in its court/destiny's in its own hand, will make the wrong decision. This city hosted 2 Mike Tyson fights and a Roy Jones Jr fight in a 3 year window and didn't capitalize(Zero major fights in 20 years since); Olympics considered Memphis as a host city and asked for a bid(Mayor at the time refused to offer bid); losing out on Major companies relocation(into/out of the city); never acquiring gambling/casinos(I know that's a state thing but the city never really tried to get that changed); etc. The university missing out on realignment for over 30 years(SEC, Big East, Big 12, ACC) after it was part of the first conference(Metro) to propose a superconference. Now after gaining ownership of the Liberty Bowl Stadium and pouring millions into a renovation, they turned down an opportunity to join a conference of universities with the same goal. A hot girl/guy asks you out and you reply, "No thanks! I'm waiting on that group of hotter girls/guys to say yes to my repeated asking for a date." Geez!

I remember Cincy and Memphis fans acting like they were moving up past Louisville. Then we all got back together when we formed C-USA. Then Cincy and UofL moved on to the Big East leaving Memphis behind. After the Big East split we all got back one more time in this new AAC thing. Fortunately for UofL it was just a one year stay before moving to the ACC which we've been in now for a decade. Looks like Cincy has moved on to the Big 12. I don't even know who else besides Memphis who is in the AAC now. Ultimately I'd trade Cal, Stanford, and SMU, who are in their first year in the ACC, for Cincy, West Virginia, and Memphis, but old rivalries and geography just don't seem to mean anything anymore.

Definitely, Oregon State and Washington State plus the MWC teams that have agreed to join do not make the Pac-7 a major conference. It doesn't make the Pac-7 enough better than the AAC as a Group of 5 league much longer road trips for Memphis. The media package is going to be limited. But, there is a potentially better option. A new Metro Conference needs to return with both football and basketball. Go with large cities with media revenue potential. Memphis, Tulane, Rice, UTSA, Tulsa, UAB, South Florida, and Florida Atlantic would be a better 8-team league than the AAC overall and not too far behind the Pac-7, with the media potential to get a nice contract and potentially pass the Pac-7. You could add some non-football playing members like Marquette, Creighton, Xavier, and Saint Louis, and add four more large metro areas.

How? The AAC have the best group of 5 tv deal and the pac doesn’t have a tv deal and I seriously doubt if they can get a billion dollar tv contract

Fresno State fan here. Memphis, do you believe in second chances? Lol no loyalty in college sports these days. Upgrade when you can!

The Pac12 will ALWAYS take Memphis. Memphis is in the position of power. They need to see what the fallout of the ACC will be before they make any drastic decisions. It makes no sense to commit to an unknown G5 outcome when the potential of an ACC invite is possible. I think the other teams are mad because that's not a potential option for them. I'm sure those Westcoast schools don't care about Memphis & USF's travel cost of their 19 different intercollegiate sports. That'll be their problem to deal with huh? They should just be happy to be associated with the new Pac12... right?

The ACC window has closed. They should've pushed for that last summer like SMU did. Take the Pac invite or get left behind are the only options now.
@tremoore98312 ай бұрын
@@xfacta334 I haven't heard of any deal between Clemson, FSU, & the ACC. Just a desperate party leaking information. And when they leave, either within the next 2 years or around 2030 (6 years) the ACC will need to replace them.

idk, the way i look at it is that the pac couldn't get a tv deal with oregon, washington, and the la schools still in the conference so why do we believe that it's such a good move(competition is absolutely better no doubt). you can talk all you wwant about how it's a better conference for competition, and it is. i just can't help but feel like in 5-10 years everyone in the new pac are looking to jump ship cause the money isn't there. the pac revival to me just feels like nothing more than a facade of "see we're still around." at the end of the day money rules, and maybe they do get a good deal, but right now financially staying where you have guaranteed money coming in. just feels like this whole realignment thing has got to come to a head soon, and by that i mean schools are going to realize they messed up and can't afford to send their water polo team from la to new jersey, or san diego to memphis and vice versa. realignment is going to squeeze the olympic sports dry.

They did have a deal for 30 million per year until one of the presidents convinced the other presidents that they were worth 50million each
@MattBuild42 ай бұрын
The deal that Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA turned down was for $25 million guaranteed a year, bro thats 3X PLUS what you make a year (in the old AAC deal)....... How delusional do you have to be to act like thats what Memphis is worth now? I cannot wait to see how youre gonna try to justify that AAC members are still worth $9M a year with what that conference has today. Maybe Memphis alone and maybe thats the play and just pray the ACC doesnt completely implode once 2030 comes around.

The money must've not been right. The PAC-12 might not be able to offer the money that the American currently pays Memphis.

The Pac12 needs to add 4 more teams...UNLV, MEMPHIS, TULANE & USF, This would be a solid Conference for now, and then we could hope the ACC FALLS apart, If ACC falls apart the leftover schools may want to merge with the Pac 12 thats how you most likely get Stanford & Cal back in the new Pac12 to stay. The left over schools, BC, Syracuse, Pitt, VT, NC State, Wake Forest, GT, SMU. You would need to rename conferences to a all inclusive name, that has nothing to do with Pac12 or ACC. WEST Division SDSU BSU FSU CSU OSU WSU STAN CAL SMU UNLV EAST Division BC SYRACUSE PITT NC State GT Wake Forest VT, Add these 3 from AAC MEMPHIS TULANE USF THE CONFERENCE now has name recognition, and now can possibly become a Power 4 Conference! Need to start talking about this possibility!

Plus, you’re relegated to ESPN+. Further, the other previous AAC defectors are paying their $17MM over like 10 years. Was SOO bummed when they didn’t join. The P4 will not forget that they were 4th at best before the others left. You may be #1 now but it would be better being #1 over Boise and SDSU. 🙄

Memphis is making the mistake Boise made when they returned to the MW instead of Joining the AAC. Boise is still a good program but not as good as they were before that decision.
@MattBuild42 ай бұрын
To be fair that wasnt the deal Boise State made. Boise State rejected the Big East contract out of fears that the Big East would collapse and invalidate their contract, which is pretty much what ended up happing to the Big East. Hindsight being 20-20 they should have gone with it because the Big East remnant became the AAC and they negotiated for a better deal than the MWC had, but 2012-2014 Big East/AAC were very scary times....
