Teaching Story books Looooong hours of running Lots of exercise Cooking Namaz and dua Etc etc etc... I did it for 4 years, then the weight on my heart was lifted.. Not easy at all..

When you suffer from clinical depression or anxiety disorder or any other serious mental illness then you don't just tell the person suffering to be patient , you can't tell a person whose body is sick that to be patient and not see any doctor or take medications, same is the case with mentally ill person

For depression : take medicine, be calm , go to those good places where you find relief and comfort, meet and sit with those good people , where you can find peace. But don't stop taking medicine. Four things are very important: Duaa (praying) patience, dhikr Medicine

Good khutba and great examples from the tradition. However, what about depression that does not have a reason behind it? I feel that that's one of the main type of depression these days. I know of folks that are always down for no reason whatsoever. What you're describing from the tradition does not sound like depression but sadness and sorrow which are completely understandable.

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah . Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." (13:25) And We already know that your chest is constrained by what they say. (15:97) Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow. (18:6) [And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses. (20:40) And he turned away from them and said, "Oh, my sorrow over Joseph," and his eyes became white from grief, for he was [of that] a suppressor. (12:84) And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten." But he called her from below her, "Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream. And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. (19:23-24) If you do not aid the Prophet - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. (9:40) So let not their speech grieve you. Indeed, We know what they conceal and what they declare. (36:76) If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allah may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allah does not like the wrongdoers - (3:140) O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful. (4:29) In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful - (57:23) He said, "I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah, and I know from Allah that which you do not know. (12:86)

This is sermon, so the way @ tone is usually like that. If it's just merely speech or talks not sermon @ khutbah, then the speaker could speak in softer tone and can include jokes as well.

ASSALAAM MOE ALAIKOEM. I COME FROM A HOME OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. MY MOM WAS NOT ALLOWED TO LIVE WITH US. FOUR YOUNG DAUGHTERS HAD TO FEND AND LIVE ON THEIR OWN AS MY FATHER WAS LIVING WITH HIS OTHER FAMILY. I TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE AT THE AGE OF 13 BUT NOBODY EVEN KNEW. I WAS PRESCRIBED LIBRIUM AT 12. I HOPE THAT MORE ULAMA CAN ADOPT A MORE HOLISTIC ATTITUDE, AMEEN.
