MEMZ 4.0 vs. ReactOS

aka. ReactOS reacts to the MEMZ trojan.
ReactOS is a free clone of Windows, which tries to be fully compatible with Windows without stealing any of Microsoft's code.
Even after 18 Years of development, it is still in Alpha and very unstable. Almost no real program runs on it, like in Wine too. However, ReactOS was built from scratch, while Wine uses Linux. It also crashes very often without any reason.

reactos bsod doesn't have auto reboot, actually i can see automatically restarts in the settings, but seems to be it doesn't do anything.

ReactOS is built from scratch, is windows compatible but uses Wine's open source implementation of the WIN32 API. Linux is not used in any way whatsoever. ReactOS devs contribute to Wine's code base.

Fun fact: you can actually compile wine on windows, and it works fairly well; occasionally it works even better than just running it directly, mostly for _really_ old software.

That red and black bar crash at the beginning and end? That was supposed to be a BSOD, believe it or not. The VM just doesn't show it correctly sometimes, and I honestly dunno why that happens. Shows up correctly in the VM's preview window though.

You can check the GitHub for that. The batch files contain encoded the MEMZ binary, which is built in C++

interesting how it detected the virus when you ran it. i wonder what they're running in the background to do that or if its built right into the operating system. perhaps something like clamav? but that is a linux product.

It uses Windows API functions to do that. It goes through all windows and their child-windows (buttons, text boxes etc. are "windows" too) and sends a message to get the text, reverse it and sends back the message to set the text.

How? It doesn't support .fon fonts. It can't replace Windows XP if someone wants a .fon font. No, you can't convert them to .ttf because they are bitmap fonts with varying glyphs depending on size. It's hard to make a .ttf font that looks good on screen at any size, since you need hinting.

Fun fact: While the trojan a running it changes the bootloader and the bootloader is part of the bios, So the trojan is actually changing a part of the bios

actually you're wrong, the bootloader is a bunch of files stored in a hidden ártition with no letter that is set as BOOT, some OSes creates that partition while installing on the ISO
