PAW, the whole idea of the “It gets better Project” is to “uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe.” Ignoring Harper’s sexuality would diminish/ negate the impact of his message. His sexual orientation is part of what makes him brave and beautiful.

Why do people need to know about your sexuality? That seems like something very personal and should be kept private. If someone wants to be dancer, that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with that but I think people should keep the details of what arouses them to themselves

It's not about shouting from the rooftops about what arouses you. It's about having the ability to proudly be yourself without the fear of constant harassment by people who hate you just for existing. Coming out as gay and being proud about it isn't about wanting to tell people that you're turned on by the same sex, it's about being true to yourself in the face of those that hate what they don't understand. The argument that "you can be gay as long as I don't know about it" is super backwards. If you just don't care about the sexual or gender orientation of others, that's super! Keep on doing that! That's one step closer to accepting that being straight isn't the default or the norm and being gay isn't weird or abnormal. The problem here is that you DO care (in the wrong way), at least enough to complain about people talking about an issue and bringing your attention to it. Ignoring people's sexualities and seeing them as just people can be good, complaining about not being able to ignore an issue that doesn't personally effect you because more and more people are becoming more aware of it and more accepting of other sexualities and gender orientations is bad.
