As an older man who dated pretty women....and divorced a beauty.....im here to tell you that an average looking woman with character with worth way more than the hottest ones on IG Looks are somewhat important (just don't be absurdly fat or ugly), but her character, emotional intelligence, commitment to loyalty and self improve, real self esteem, emotional maturity, ability to self reflect, think for herself, and just be a good person is way more important if you're trying to build with her. Superficial stuff like looks and money and even personality a lot of times aren't a measure of a person's goodness or realness. It's icing for sure, but not necessary for me. @Glizzy God A fair assessment but I would remind you that we're not all sailing that ship. I understand hypergamy and would be lying if I said it's never made me doubt myself before, but apart from that I can tell you I've never been attracted to it. The whole thing is gigantic waste of time. Though it's rarely won me favors in social circles, I've always preferred on other areas of life that actually matter instead like my health, career, purpose, etc. You end up a lot less popular that way, but the friends you do make last a lifetime. There's also nothing better than a genuine relationship with someone you actually connect with, even if those are few and far between these days. Sometimes the rare thing is worth waiting for. Certainly better than eye candy that's full of self-doubt. I spent my entire college and young adult life largely around people who didn't understand me or my mentality here, but I wouldn't have changed a thing. Men should be hypergamous too. Gold diggers are real af. There's a difference between a gold digger and a hypergamous woman who is actually a good woman. These kind of women will hold it down for you if you ever get sick they will find a way to hustle to keep you and the house going. @Glizzy God Love and attraction are not unconditional. "What you got" can range from finances/wealth, to norms and values, a healthy body that you've worked hard to get to, a mindset or a personality and many more things. I don't think you can automatically write off someone as low value/trash because they decided to leave once their partner changed their behavior, mindset or decided not to care about their health anymore for example. Sure, changing one of those things may not be a big problem depending on what it is but it can add up when more changes are made. And soon one partner no longer meets the requirements the other person has for the relationship, and also may not be willing to get back to what they were before.

@Glizzy God Everyone has their basic requirements for the relationship. Some of those requirements can be considered shallow (such as being rich, having status or being beautiful/handsome) but they are requirements nonetheless. One of the biggest problems is that people aren't always honest about their reasons for being in the relationship. Someone might say "I love you" but think in the privacy of their own head "I love what you can do for me" instead. This is not a sex specific issue. Both of the sexes do this, usually looking for different things. Being used and taken for a ride is a bad experience. You can argue about who has it worse, but the feeling of betrayal and violation is the same. Love isn't unconditional, physical attraction certainly isn't but it helps if you still love the other person. It is said that people generally don't change, but they do sometimes change significantly. There are some changes you might be able to accept and still love your partner and stay with them. They might gain weight or become unemployed for a long time and you might be able to adapt to the new situation and be content even be happy. People can change significantly given enough time, even their norms and values can change. If your partner changed their norms, values, mindset, worldview, stopped caring about their health, and changed their behavior towards other people (including you), they are no longer the person you fell in love with. This may result in them becoming someone you're not attracted to and who you may not be able to live with because of their behavior. And then when you find out they are not willing to go back to what they were before or willing to work on their issues you will probably grieve as you realize the person you loved is no longer there. I would not call you low value/trash for losing your love and attraction to your current partner. I would never tell you you need to stick with them. This isn't a heterosexual couples problem, it's a people problem. Vetting potential partners is great but it cannot protect you from potential changes over the course of a long term relationship. "what if a guys parents die & he gets depressed & has a bad couple of years... just abandon him?" I think that's a good real world example of "changes". It depends on how the depression affects them. Someone can be depressed and still be that same loving person you entered the relationship with and you're still a team. Someone can become depressed and destroy themselves and try to drag you down with them. Are they willing to accept help and work through it? Some people become depressed, refuse help/treatment and turn to alcohol, drugs, gambling etc. Some people become depressed and become hostile or dangerous, or start physically or mentally abusing their partners. So what exactly does "a few bad years" look like? Depression is sometimes used as an excuse for bad behavior. I would not expect you to stick with a depressed person for a few years when they are abusing you (mentally, physically, otherwise) nor do I think it's reasonable for anyone to expect you to. "you keep saying changes, like he's doing it intentionally or its his fault." good point, I should have phrased that differently. Not "changes are made" but rather "changes happen". I'm also not focusing on men in this conversation.

I feared your judgement of someone leaving extended to reasons other than money. My message boiled down to that if things get bad enough you can leave. Some people stay in relationships that can't be salvaged, because they've been drilled with "through thick and thin/for better or worse" (not leaving when things become difficult) since childhood, and they accept things they shouldn't accept because they think that's part of "through thick and thin/for better or worse". Look out for yourself, take care.

@Glizzy God I'm old, and it's not just that, I get culture shock reading a lot of the experiences here. Is it safe to assume you're from the US or Canada or Australia? I'm Dutch, I know a lot of the people on the internet using english are from the US but I wouldn't want to automatically assume I'm talking to someone from the US. The impression I've gotten from US opposite sex interpersonal relationships is that it almost seems like men and women hate each other. I sometimes watch things that I initially think I won't agree with (if YT recommends them) just to broaden my worldview. I've watched Aba and Preach videos. When I watched the first one I thought I'd would disagree with it, but it turns out I didn't and then watched more of their videos. It gave me a different perspective. I'm not entirely sure how I landed on this video (another youtube recommendation). I watched another one about women's unrealistic requirements for potential partners. Culture shock again. Not that the Netherlands doesn't have issues. It's just different. Different laws, different social norms, different social rules create a different dating environment even if you could argue that the nature of people isn't different.

I agree with you man. I've always been competitive so everything you're saying just makes sense to me. You gotta work at yourself to get on a level that gets you those outcomes you want....I always look at the times I wanted to be able to compete with dudes taller then me on the basketball court. Had to train hard to get my vert up to be able to jump high enough to compete with guys at 6'4 and up while I was 5'10. It paid off. Came to find out tall dudes don't really workout on their vert like that. So I caught up to them pretty quickly. Felt good....Tall for no reason headass lol

I would wonder how non-pornographic and hero protagonist movies and media have had an effect on the minds of the viewers. Typically we see a relationship blossoming within the first few phrases of dialogue, but this would seldom be the case in real life. I believe that such films, though entertaining and give some aspirations, do leave us with enflamed expectations for both ourselves and our future significant others. The only thing I don't agree with is that men should not have to lower their standards in order to just procure a female. Attraction and looks are a very important element in men's mating choices. You should be into the person you are with. Period. Men should be able to find a mate that at the minimum is evenly yoked to their own standards. Example, if I am able to workout everyday and keep my body up to a certain standard with 6 pack abs even if I am busy, got a job, working on my purpose sick or tired and all, then I shouldn't have to lower my standard to a 5 or low 6 just because she is "nice" if she does not match my aesthetic. Now if you are trying to get a super model, you wouldn't drive up to holla to her in a junk ride. This I do agree with.
