This isn’t a high school race (just had one high schooler in it). And they are pacers so they lead the pack and stretch out the field a bit so the times aren’t super slow and tactical. Normally with two pacers, one takes it and drops out earlier for the second to take on the race after :)

The US mens 1500m is the most competitive event in track and field. I believe I read there are just under 200 currently competing athletes that have run under 3:40 (or 3:57 mile equivalent). And you're right about the 5-7 seconds that would still need to be shaved from that 3:37.9 time to compete near the top on the world stage.

This is not racing others anymore. This is like greyhounds chasing a fake rabbit. These are professionals (?) and they need two rabbits and guiding lights to show them the pace? Disgusted every time I see one of these. I doubt the Faith Kipyegon world records would have happened without these benefits. This is cheating and should be banned.
@drslyone
@drslyone Жыл бұрын
I think all world records from middle distance on have always had pacers. That is nothing new. And I don't think the athletes really need the lights. I'm not much of a runner, but even I can tell my pace pretty accurately. Now faster tracks, better shoes, supplements, training methods; these are the advantages todays runners have over the past. Although some past athletes may have had better supplements.
@Thomas-fk3cw
@Thomas-fk3cw Жыл бұрын
@@drslyoneFaster tracks, better shoes, and high school kids now instantly knowing nationwide competitor marks. That has raised the competitive bar. Only 15 to 20 years ago, at high scholl level you could only benchmark yourself off state competitors. All these track times weren't instantly available at a click.
