I remember watching this race 32 years ago. Samuel Matete ran the race of his life that shocked the whole world. He did Zambia and Africa proud.

Big Sam my hero. We all became good runners at Nchanga Athletics club in chingola because him. Long live champ. Lots of respect.

I'm guessing that the commentator won the bet from the night before when he says over the athlete in lane 8 that he is "a shade out of his depth in this white hot competition?" But to be fair the athlete did come last! #justsaying

When he said that I was like “really?”.

@@JAHamilton77 It was the world we lived in then. The real issue he has highlighted has other ramifications. Sponsorship, race fees and endorsements were not as attractive if the athlete is one of many as opposed one of a few!

Good, and after that race this man was able to outspeed mr. Pettigrew for a gold. Better than ever!

That was your individual event but the highlight for me was that 4x4 final. "Akabusi has go and the American is beaten, he's fighting back ,Akabusi has made it , gold for Britain" Epic
