Welcome to the World Athletics Watch Party, join the conversation on Twitter with our hashtag #WatchWorldAthletics.
Capping a stunning comeback from a career-threatening injury, Mutaz Barshim successfully defended his world high jump title before a near-capacity crowd at Khalifa Stadium.
It was Barshim, the 2017 World Athlete of the Year, who was these championships’ unofficial poster boy ever since the Qatari capital was named to host these championships in 2014. That’s a lot of pressure for any athlete to carry, never mind one who suddenly found himself sidelined by a serious ankle injury just 14 months before the start of the championships. Ruptured ligaments and a subsequent surgery in July of last year began what turned out to be a frustrating race against the calendar, and then against the clock.

Ahh, 1st world black people putting themselves in a bubble once again b/c it makes you feel better about yourself even tho you're not the one accomplishing anything, and associating themselves with other blacks b/c it gives you some faux sense of satisfaction, even tho there is a great deal of diversity among "blacks" both ethnically, culturally, etc.. This may surprise you, but Mexicans are not Brazilians. Japanese are not Chinese. English are not Polish, and not all blacks are the same. I swear, it's only privileged black Americans that take pride in people who come from counties and cultures that they don't even understand. (implant yourself into some of these countries, and you'd be a fucking slave lol) Many South Asians are WAYY blacker than the "black folk" you associate with. Increase your world view. Stop being a sheep. Shit is embarrassing.

Soy Sauce listen people do not hate me because I have Christian neither do they hate me because I am tall they hate me because I am black. No matter where you are no matter where you come from if you are black you are African and that fact is what unites us. The sin against our skin committed by others has and will forever be our blessing. Do not feel your heart with hate or jealousy ok because you sounded so foolish in you comment. 😀😀🇳🇬 my people are my people because they have actual African ancestry because they are black. 1st world black and 3 world black are literally the same as with the only difference being where they are situated. @@tomieke4717 Lol bruh, imagine being shallow enough to feel pride in someone that you don't even know solely because they're the same race as you. Barshim has had incredible placements in multiple world-class events and that has nothing to do with YOU. By attributing his hard work solely to genetics, you're disrespecting him and the sport of high jump. Don't leech off the work of others, Barshim's achievements are his and his alone.

I find it interesting they don't wear form-fitting clothing and have a laser or something detect the height. This competition is different from all the others in the fact that not only do they have to jump their highest but it has to be on a specific jump with the bar set to a specific height. They could jump 2.7 meters but if the bar is only set to 2.19 hey congrats on your 2.19 jump! Anyone know why they still do it like this?
@geothermal
@geothermal 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know any jumpers that hate the rules. The jumper can pass on any height that is set up and wait for higher. Here are the rules for you. "Competitors may begin jumping at any height announced by the chief judge, or may pass, at their own discretion. Most competitions state that three consecutive missed jumps, at any height or combination of heights, will eliminate the jumper from competition. The victory goes to the jumper who clears the greatest height during the final. Tie-breakers are used for any place in which scoring occurs. If two or more jumpers tie for one of these places, the tie-breakers are: 1) the fewest misses at the height at which the tie occurred; and 2) the fewest misses throughout the competition. If the event remains tied for first place (or a limited advancement position to a subsequent meet), the jumpers have a jump-off, beginning at the next greater height. Each jumper has one attempt. The bar is then alternately lowered and raised until only one jumper succeeds at a given height."

First man to successfully defend the high jump title. It's clear though he has not broken the world record. The fact remains he has jumped over 2m and 40 cm for six successful seasons. It's also a record of his own no other has done of all times And I believe now even Olympics next year the title is his if these guys don't train hard to beat him one needs to jump above 2:40 Evidenced in this worst season of injury and surgery and a season best best if 2:25 he comes on the big event with 2:38. Now even if inanyuk also jumped it he would still win it coz he jumped it on first attempt or he would even go for 2:41 Barshim is the king of high jump
