Interestingly tv never showed replays of Harrison s jumps if I remember correctly. Shades of 1980 Moscow games where Russian junpers were favoured by Campbell s and Oliveira s jumps were ruled out.

How far was the last jump?? must have been easily over 18m or even WR mark.

I thought he was really unlucky in this event. All the fouls were marginal. Despite he fouls probably the best series of consistent jumping ever. 17.88 would normally be good enough to win and ironically was longer than his Gold Medal winning jump in Sydney. Incredible jump from Harrison which I believe is the longest jump in history with a negative windspeed. I think the last two jumps by Edwards which but for marginal fouls were longer than 18.09.

I reckon they were just short. 18m plus but not 18.10

@@FleetAdmiral833 Nah he was close to the WR (if not literally on it) for the 5th, so well passed 18.09. That sign with the Globe there tells it. The the 6th he was about half way between 18.00 and 18.29. So arguably over 18.10, if you look at a physical ruler in your hand.

Tough day at the office for Edwards, but he dug deep and still came away with something to be proud of.

With a zonal take-off, the longest jump would have won the gold and the second longest the silver etc.... a bit like how track results are determined (fastest first, second fastest second etc) instead of having restrictions that are irrelevant to how far you jump on the day but which can change a result.
