However, its causes not mentioned. - If one could freely say their mind and rationally compare ideologies (e.g. Islam, Christianity), which say other schools of thought are illegitimate and deserve conversion or else possible death, they don't stand any chance in front of tradition of co-existence of multiple schools of philosophy and paths bundled as 'Hinduism' and Dharmic sub-traditions - If one could critically connect the historical dots, one would openly say these religions were almost entirely enforced and thrust upon the people of this subcontinent by the force of sword. Seems like Desai and Paranjpe vs Anuj Dhar and Sampath. Former two do not want to go against western ordained intellectual slavery in India and latter want to remove western slavery from Indian minds and become independent Indians who know their past and facts. Anuj Dhar is fantastic not only because of his great research on Bose but also because he recognizes people like Paranjape who want to deny Bose, Bhagat Singh, Savarkar. Great how he fought against Paranjape on this, need fighters today to keep history alive. Paranjape should know Indian youth have been taught Bhagat Singh was a terrorist in NCERT textbooks which they reject today. And this hasn't started 6yrs ago but this is a crises since decades with bad education system that taught distorted information. Not one paragraph is mentioned about Vivekanand or Savakar or Bhagat Singh in textbooks. It is easy to condemn Indian youth but what has he done as a professor to rectify education in his area apart from selling books and earning from it? Disappointed to see Paranjape speaking against India and for western intellectual slavery, he used to speak well but here he exposed himself. Sanjiv Sanyal is the one of the only few authentic historians today, rest are all book sellers.

His erudition and eloquence notwithstanding, Professor Paranjape appeared to not decipher that being a researcher on Netaji, it was both of prudence and a natural course for Anuj Dhar to establish what led to our independence. He may well focus on the macro aspects of the progress of India as a country, but it is equally of significance to look into the micro aspects of our independence, which is exactly what Anuj was highlighting. To me, professor Paranjape's dismissive demeanour bespoke nothing but plain arrogance. Anuj was the most outspoken panelist. He voiced the angst of the people verbatim and did not disguise it in scholarly words. Vikram Sampath was also quite commendable.

You put it so well...but I think what is now needed is official acceptance to the fact that india got independence more than anything else ( but not without including) because of after effects of Netaji's actions, INA trial,RIN mutiny and collaspe of native army's loyalty toward their white masters....and also that r.c Majumdar, Ambedkar and Atlee agreed to this theory......and if not,Govt should organise atleast nationwide debate on roles of Gandhi,bose, Patel,Nehru, Ambedkar, Savarkar...etc with clinching evidences..and rational arguments between historians of all spectrum of ideology to put their point... otherwise it will like just some curious people knowing the true story and majority still singing de di hame azadi innocently 🙏🙏

Super point that I too really wished to acknowledge what Sri Makarand ji points out starting 18:54, reduction of a single bipolar picture is not a good idea and not true as well. Indian freedom struggle (the transfer of power from British) is much more complicated and intervined and very organically happened. Whether we like it or not there were so many misgivings that happened in the process for sure, like the partition. I support, the Anuj point for sure. The point is it really complex. Lack of critical thinking is the need.

Swami Vivekanand is definitely the one who shaped India and Indian. He was born in 1863. He for the first time define what and how Great Hinduism is and Indian philosophy is. Netaji himself was an ardent devotee of Swamiji Vivekananda's. Veer Sarvarkar was born in 1883. Three of them are great but they can't be put in same box or compared. Vivekananda shaped modern Hinduism and nationalism.

@Diptasree Choudhuri Yes. Newer generations always tend to be better informed than previous generations. It's more due to wider access to information. Kids called 'Gen Z' i.e. those born after around year 2000 have no idea what it was living in a world without internet or mobile phone. Such technologies bridge the gap between information / knowledge seekers and info / knowledge providers. Even Social Media has democratized news flow, as it routinely calls out 'eminent' journalists for their motivated reportage. But, India will shine again only if & when it embraces its Indic roots / civilizational ethos. For that, BJP has to be bold and undo all that Lord MaCaulay introduced in the name of "education" in India, besides the high school & college curriculum steeped in leftists propaganda, as in JNU. BJP has so far disappointed on this front.

@Diptasree Choudhuri Very true. Our own ancient culture and traditions respect women far more than any of the Western ones do. It's only Hinduism which has scores of women deities and most temples in India are devoted to such women deities. No religion originated in the West has a female deity. We need to wean ourselves away from the mindset of seeking approval of the "white man" embrace the richness of our own cultural heritage. E.g yoga, ayurveda, Indic / Vedic sciences - all of which predate Western parallels by several millennia.

@Diptasree Choudhuri Agree. Any sustainable social change has to come from society not the Govt. Govt only legitimises such changes through laws or its policies. BTW, the Indian concept of feminism is vastly different from that of Western societies. Even today, there are many communities in India, esp Kerala n North-east regions, which are matriarchal. I've seen family bungalows named after the matriarchs in Kerala. Feminism is more about gender justice than seeking undue privileges for women or male bashing.

Anuj ji took no BS about Netaji and that's how it should be. We have been force fed a certain narrative because it suits the former colonial masters and later their slaves who ruled us. Yes talking about Netaji's death mystery is as important as to mainstreaming his idea and ideals of a modern India. He is the shining example of unconditional nationalism and that is what troubles many today. Savarkar ji is mocked today by people sitting in AC rooms about how he wrote a mercy petition to the British after serving 14 years in Kalapani let them survive that punishment and then speak for themselves. We have been taught a linear version of India's independence struggle with Gandhi as its face but was this version even a struggle? No accounts of British atrocities not even a slightest mentionnof personalities that paralleled that of Gandhi and Nehru. We need the alternate version of history to better understand ourselves and that is what people like VIKRAM SAMPATH, ANUJ DHAR , J SAI DEEPAK, MEENAKSHI JAIN and many others like them are doing....

Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Subhash Bose, Sardar Patel, Nehru and Gandhi were all India figures while Savarakar remained a provincial figure of Maharashtra. Savarkar's Hindutva made him communal figure just like Jinnah though both of whom had potential to be all India figures. BTW we shouldn't forget that Dadabahi Navroji, Sarojini Naidu, Lala Lajpat Rai, Tilak and Gokhale who were great contributors .

Poor knowledge, if you say Savarkar is a provincial figure. He has been followed all over Indias by revolutionaries. He is the first national figure after Lokmanya Tilak...but he was taken to jail and Gandhi took that seat. jWhat has Rabindranath Tagore done and what makes him national??? Savarkar travelled all over India, delivered speeches on Hindu Mahasabha platform and his party was all over India. Know before u speak. Then I can say even Vivekanand was provincial he was a Bengali...Tagore has talked about 'Sonar Bangla' has Savarkar talked about 'Maharashtra'. He knew many languages and have written in Punjabi..But he expressed best in Marathi and Sanskrit.

Mr. Makarand said rightly about critical thinking, but, shouldn't we think also that we ourselves ax on our foot in past by not stopping damage of our Gurukuls, nalanda University, scriptures, real history and also temples.... Today, due to the damage in past, the current generation isn't aware about the real history and culture of bharat. They follow other culture and civilization but not Bharat's.
