I was a young wannabe filmmaker on my first attempt at directing a movie. It was the second day, going terribly, I have been up for two days straight and we just ended at 2am. Exasperated, I went to my car to relax before breaking down. This song came on, never heard it ever before, and it made my stress melt and filled me with such Joy. I sat there in pure euphoria. 17 years later it still brings me back to that wonderful moment.

Everything was much more expensive to do. Music videos, albums, etc were much more expensive to make. The level of artistry that you see and hear in the 1980's comes from people who were at the very top of their craft. I'll give you another example. A picture came in a roll of 20. Once you used your 20 pictures, you had to pay to get it developed and then pay for copies of the picture. So people were more selecting of what they would capture on film or magnetic tape.

The thing is, there was a sincerity they had that a lot of those later bands lacked. So many of them had an undercurrent of cynicism to them. These guys meant it (I mean, if you could figure out what the hell they were saying). The name of their next album after this was "The Adventures of Women and Men Without Hate in the 21st Century", so they weren't joking around. Thing is, that becomes your death knell if you also live in a cynical world, which is what the 90s was (which is part of why, as another example, someone Seal isn't more popular than he is despite consistently producing solid music), but I saw these guys live a few years ago, and they're just as awesome as they've ever been. And yeah, I'm close to your age (turning 49 soon), so we have the same twin perspectives on this. Now I have kids who were my age when this came out and I get to introduce them to it, and maybe they'll think their Dad's taste in music isn't so bad after all. :-)

He said the same thing when I saw them in LA! I don't know why we would doubt it. I mean, I would think that there is more to it than that, as songs like this have lyrics that can be interpreted in many ways, but I'd guess that mescaline was involved somehow, if he said it. I mean, dude was/is a rock star. He probably partied hard. In any case, they put on an amazing show, and the new tunes from the album Love in the Age of War are incredible. I feel so happy that I can go to a Men Without Hats show and actually want to hear the new stuff as much as, if not more than, the old stuff.
I still don't understand why this wasn't a massive hit. Fun, silly, and a blast to sing along to.

True story: I heard this song a long time ago when I was young, maybe 4-5.. forgot about it till 1 day about a year ago I was grabbing some beer... this song was playing while I was there. I went home, this fucking song was stuck in my head ALL NIGHT!!! so fast forward a few hours of googling "duh-du-nuh-nuh-nuh-nah" and nothing turns up, i call my parents at 5:30am knowing DAMN WELL my mom sleeps with her phone on loud. She answers and says "WHAT?!?!?" I say "Mom, what is this damn song..." I hum the melody, she says "I dont fucking know!! Its 5am on a fucking saturday!!" My step dad (thank god for him) says "wait do the hum again" do I did & he says "that's pop goes the world!!!!!! Now fuck off" It's been in my playlist ever since. And people are now going through what I went through trying to find this song. 😂😂😂

Hey, no problem. I'm a big Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio, and Black Sabbath fan, and love me some Dead Kennedys, TSOL, and The Cramps, but I am not at all ashamed to say this is one of the catchiest tunes I've ever heard. Absolutely love it! Oh--and UP THE IRONS!!!
