I was in London once and by chance the London Auto show was underway just a few blocks from my hotel. I thought, why not? I could go see the British Museum some other time (Next Day). In the entire show the was one display that was packed with a massive crowd and a long line of people waiting for the chance to sit in the car and what it was is a Pontic Firebird, the sistercar to the Camero we see in this video. People were drooling and gawking and completely delighted over a Pontiac while the BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari and other stands seemed almost empty. It was funny because in the US the perception of Pontiacs is they are about as unique as a loaf of bread. But to be fair I was fascinated by several European cars a European might consider creepy or nerdy. I enjoyed the Citroens and others I never was sure what they were. My favorite car I sat in was the Audi A8. It completely blew me away because the outside was so conservative but In my opinion the inside was better than a Mercedes S class.

The first move in the car becoming truly great. and yet still being in the reach of us normal folks, even during its generation in factory racing form the c5 corvette dominated its class in endurance racing against the worlds best. And continued to do so since. Few times have the likes of Porsche betten it in endurance GT racing series. and im talking championships Thats facts. and with every generation it continued to dominate despite not being a so called.. perfect mid engine sports car with it big engine in the front. But now.. we have the C8, and it continues to be int he reach of most common folk, except its now Perfect with its engine in the mid rear its quality both in build and interior leauges apart from its older siblings. Its not a true blue quality mid engine sports car. capable of 2.8 0-60 and even spotted as low as 2.7!! And thats in its current base form. And oh btw for you brits, left hand drive!. It trounces on the NSX in just about every way. a car that more than twice it sticker. And still has tech that bests the NSX. Its naturally aspirated, meaning there's alot more to be had from its power plant. And in its forthcoming z06 zr1 and zora forms. you can forget it!. Im not a big Corvette fan, but theirs simply no denying what your getting for 60+grand. you simply cant complain with all your getting. sure it looks more than a bit generic, but! 60grand mid engine supercar , it may not have exactly and exotice sound, but!.. 60grand mid engine supercar that will hang with the best of them. you will see yourself coming and going on the road... BUT!! 60grand mid engine supercar!!! just no logical room to complain. and at the end of the day, this car will upset the supercar market, they will not be able to lower their prices to match this car, nor are their any cars that truly match what it is. The closest being the Shelby GT500 and although it now consider a sports car having graduated from its muscle car roots (as did the corvette with the c8) its still view much as a Muscle car. all other competitors to c8 are either far below its performance marks, at an equal if not more price tag, and for those that are faster they are far far FAR beyond its price range, yet, only marginally out performing it. This means cars like the Porsche Carrera's the boxter, Cayman, NSX, and more will have more than a bit of an issue when it comes to sales.

TLDR and if you think 100k for a car is " in the reach of normal folks" id suggest you leave your gated community once in awhile and ACTUALLY meet REAL "normal" folks normal folks dont think 100k for a car is"within reach"

I'd like to see a segment in The Grand Tour where they watch clips like these...a blistering 5 SECONDS
@ripvanwinkle2002 Жыл бұрын
5 seconds is still incredibly fast for 340 horsepower..

Crazy how 5.2 0-60 was considered "ridiculous" and now even FWDs can do under 5, Mini JCW GP for example does in 4.7

The upside of this is you can still build the snot out of a C6 and reduce that time to something 'modern'. 5.2 is plenty quick enough for me, thank you. I was looking at an 80k silver 6-speed coupe for 14k but I just acquired a new project so I had to pass. They won't get any cheaper...

If Hammond wanted a huge Cadillac he should have taken a 1968 Fleetwood. Makes that '99 Seville he's driving look like a Mini Cooper.

It mentions in the description the Corvette being the worlds best selling sports car. I was pretty certain that was the MX-5.

MX-5 is just a roadster.

The Cadillac shown with night vision is newer than the Seville originally shown.
