I remember watching this performance on the old channel. Stern's intonation was loose by this time in his career, but it's still a very enjoyable performance. It's always a treat watching the old legends play.

Yes, in my opinion his best performances are from the 40s and 50s. He was my favourite player in that particular era.

En mi familia el ídolo Don Heifetz y en ciertas interpretaciones es excelente pero de 65 años supe de los como Estern que no son epilépticos con el vibrato y con perdón al Sr Jascha Heifetz que no tengo talla académica ni para afinarle ya fuera su Stradivarius o Guarnerius Perdón Jascha Heifetz

Als ich ein Teenager war, gab Isaac Stern die beste Aufführung des Mendelssohn-Violinkonzerts, das ich von ihm über einen örtlichen Radiosender für klassische Musik hören hörte. Für die nächste geplante Ausstrahlung seines Auftritts habe ich darauf geachtet, ihn mit einem Tonbandgerät aufzunehmen. Seine Interpretation der Kadenz des ersten Satzes war meiner Meinung nach die bisher beste. 7:23-9:01 Er hatte den besten fliegenden Spiccato. Zertifiziert intergalaktisch!🌹

Рискну написать от имени рабочего, которому сейчас немного больше - чем Айзеку Стерну на этой записи...помню знойное лето 1972 года - мне было 9 лет. Давеча, когда мы оба с женой перевалили за 60 лет, слушали изумительнейшую запись концерта Мендельсона 1964 года с Лондонским оркестром в исполнении Генрика Шеринга - знаете, это было несравненно интереснее и талантливее вот этой интерпретации Стерна - без пережимов и провалов мелодии, когда скрипку и вовсе не слышно...и ведь Шеринг при этом не имел такой шумной и громкой славы - как толстяк Стерн, вполне собой довольный...видал его в июле 1982 года вместе с Третьяковым в Москве на конкурсе Чайковского...потом много спустя в Питере, когда он в последний раз был России - зрелище было тягостное...лучше бы он не приезжал.

Stern was capable of the most beautiful things and the worst atrocities (musically and humanly). But I can assure you from a technical violin perspective that this performance is extraordinary good. As an example of the good that he was capable of doing, in the 80s he lended a stradivarius to my teacher (that he met only two hours before) for the Sion international competition.

L'intonation de Stern à toujours été approximative celle de Szeryng à toujours été parfaite toute la différence est là...musicalement Szeryng était beaucoup plus intéressant que Stern .

@@dominiquedarco8924 Heureusement que la musique ne se réduit pas à l'intonation. Cette interprétation de mendelssohn est l'une des plus belle qu'il m'est jamais été donné d'entendre... Le son, le son, le son...

@@lc-b352 au violon si l'intonation est douteuse c'est très vite pénible !!ceci est valable pour les sutres instruments à cordes bien sûr et valable pour les bois et les cuivres mais pour le violon c'est au 10em de millimètre....quand au son de Stern c'est du gros son sans la palette de couleurs d'un Szeryng,Francescatti,Grumiaux,Jasen , Ferras ,Milstein etc etc ....j'ai accompagné Stern dans un Beethoven très très faux et en plus le personnage n'était pas foncièrement sympathique. Il à entre autre fait énormément barrage à Szeryng à New-York heureusement le talent de Szeryng était au dessus de tout ça. Bref vous l'aurez compris Stern est très loin d'être dans mes violonistes favoris désolé !!

@@dominiquedarco8924 Vous n'avez pas à me convaincre, je suis convaincu... Mon précédent commentaire disait justement que Stern était capable de faire des atrocités musicales et notamment de justesse. Je suis moi-même violoniste et me rend très bien compte de ce qui ne va pas dans les quelques premières mesures. Bien qu'ayant une très grande admiration pour Szeryng, ce Mendelssohn est vraiment caractéristique de ce que Stern fait de mieux. Quant au son il n'est certainement pas monochrome dans ce concerto et dire que c'est un gros son uniquement serait comme dire que Perlmann ce n'est qu'un gros vibrato ou que le jeu de Zuckermann est dénué de finesse.
