MENDEN - Hexenteich (Witches pond)

Eingerahmt von Hügeln und Wäldern liegt der Hexenteich in Menden (Sauerland). Seinen Namen erhielt er durch die Tatsache, das hier im Mittelalter Hexen hingerichtet und ertränkt wurden. Im Jahre 1631 trotzte eine Frau im Hexenprozess der Folter (Dorte Hilleke). Nach Ihr ist heute eine Bücherei in der Stadt Menden benannt. Aber nicht nur wegen seiner historischen Vergangenheit ist der Hexenteich heute sehenswert, sondern auch wegen der Baumskulpturen, die rund um den Teich zu finden sind. Die sind von dem serbischen Künstler Mile Prerad geschaffen worden.
Surrounded by hills and forests, the witch pond located in Menden (Sauerland). It received the name from the fact that here witches were executed and been drowned in the middle age. In 1631, a woman defied the torture of the witch trials (Dorte Hilleke). Today will a library in Menden named for her. But not only because of its historical past is worth seeing today the witches pond, but also by the tree sculptures that can be found around the pond. They have been created by the Serbian artist Mile Prerad.
