I agree with you man. The rule is: tap if you don't want to pass out or have a broken limb. If you you don't tap your opponent will normally add more pressure until you tap. Your safety is definitely in your own hands and any black belt must be humble enough to concede and tap his opponent. I honestly believe that belt belts taps faster (meaning humbly accepts) than other belt because that's a sign of maturity. Just like in chess match where king vs king-rook: resign or face INEVITABLE defeat.

About the roots, all arts came from Jujutso, bjj, judo (or kano jujutso) olympic judo. but as i told 1ma4ighter the name translation is almost the same thing, jujutso means gentle art and judo means gentle path.

Once the arm lock is on properly he should have tapped, Mendes has amazing upper body strength and you can see the pain on Cobrinha's face the entire time its on. He thought he was gonna get out of it but once the second major pull happened he should have tapped right there. He chose to keep playing and damn near had his shit pulled out of the socket. He will be regretting that late tap for years to come.

I'm not bashing him or anything it's just hard to believe. Cobrinha normally fights much bigger guys with just as much skill and he still maintains some sort of control in the matches he doesn't get finished too often. For example, watch Cobrinha's 2011 Abu Dhabi fight with Rodolfo Vieira.

But he is who sell more books in America. My opinion, he is only good at marketing. By the way, its not about country pride or something, i love America.
@DreadfulUnderground11 жыл бұрын
I don't live in Brazil. I live in reality. In MMA or BJJ when you dont tap, you either are saying the submission is not good, or that you do not respect your opponent. If you do not respect your opponent and he breaks your shit, that is on you. It's a fight. I am concerned about my friend not getting hurt and winning. If he had let go of the sub and lost, it would have been his fault for not breaking it. I do heelhooks so i already have a "bad reputation". Rep means nothing when you win fights

we can say WE brazilian because the BJJ was an evolution created by lot of brazilians, not just one family. Eg. Ricardo de la Riva and the De la riva guard, berimbolo, Nino create gogoplata and rubber guard, they are not from Gracie Family.
@BrettNASTYY6 жыл бұрын
Hate to break it to you, but Nino Schembri did not invent the gogoplata, and Professor De La Riva did not invent the "de la riva" guard that has since been coined after himself. The earliest record of the gogoplata was in 1955, in Mikinosuke Kawaishi book "My Method of Judo", where he named the choke "kakato jime" or "heel choke". To give you some perspective, Nino Schembri wasn't even born by the time Mikinosuke Kawaishi died. "De la riva" guard has existed in Kosen judo since the turn of the 20th century. There are clear video recordings of it being utilized in the kosen style nanatei/shichitei judo tournaments in Japan since the 50's. The guard was played no different from the way we use it in jiujitsu today. Here's a clip of Tsunetane Oda performing a "de la riva" sweep from the early 1900's. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3XPf5-vnrCgiMk Here is the full clip of Tsunetane Oda demonstrating some Kosen judo techniques. You'll see a lot of modern bjj utilized in this clip from the early 20th century. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2mmpXyXr6psb7c What you said about Eddie Bravo could very much be applied to bjj; much of the techniques in bjj were neither invented nor created. If anything, they're being recycled and reapplied. As a fellow jiujitsu practitioner, I would recommend researching more into Kosen judo. It is beautiful to see the parallels between both arts, and the rich history that they are preserving. Know your roots!

@laststar211 жыл бұрын
@inthelight Maybe before spouting your mouth off talking about 'we Brazilians created BJJ from Judo' you should learn the actual history. Jiu Jitsu is a Japanese Martial Art which resembles Judo in a lot of ways. When it was brought to Brazil, the Brazilians took the mostly standing fighting system and adapted it to the ground, inventing most of the submissions and techniques. It wasn't created by Brazilians from Judo, it is a modified form of Japanese Jiu Jitsu.
