Lady Gaga is just phenomenal. So talented, and so much more depth to her artistry than most people know. If you haven’t already watched it, I would love to see your commentary on her film A Star Is Born. Very relevant when it comes to addiction.

I went to a 9:40 am showing of that film alone. I knew I needed to watch it but had no idea about how dark it really went. It ripped me open. I would totally talk about it 🤍

Thank you for reacting to Lady Gaga, she is SA survivor herself and made several songs about her struggles with this and the impact it left on her mental health. 1) Swine : song about the person who r*ped her and the rage/ panic she felt. 2) 911 : song about the psychotic break she had following the traumatic events of the SA. (These 2 songs are very POP/EDM, they are nothing like Till it happens to you, they are more personal to Gaga in my opinion) Thank you again Mere for opening this discussion. ❤️

As a childhood R and SA survivor this was powerful. It does help me feel not so alone. I feel immense sadness that this happens to so many.

So nice to see some Gaga here ❤ this song is gut-wretching Angel Down and Dope are also very touching songs that I would recommend. She's a great artist ❤

Dope is so good! So interesting because it’s from the perspective of an addict and being afraid of being abandoned… then having that fear push you to change 🫶🏼 But it can also be understood as all the promises the addict makes yet never is able to keep.

Lady Gaga is one of my favorite artists. I’m so glad you did this video! Also, so excited for your book! Congrats! I have a loved one who is an addict and only recently have they been completely out of my life. So much grief and acceptance has taken place in the last few years. A song that spoke to me as a young high schooler trying to cope with this reality was Heroin by Lana Del Rey. It is a heavy song that deals with drug abuse and loving an addict. I think it may speak to you too and I would love to see you review it. But I know it may be hard for you now, so don’t feel pressure to. Sending love ❤

Thank you so much for this suggestion and I think I will do it by the end of the week. Thank you for the love about my book but sorry for our shared experience of loving an addict. I'm hoping we can create a supportive cocoon for those affected to share.

This song and the Oscars performance specially are filled with so many emotions, rage, despair, conformism, accepting that you’re not alone. Gaga has a personal connection to the song apart from co-writing it. She’s a survivor herself, being sexually abused at 19 by a record producer and dropped off at the corner of her parents house pregnant. She talks about how her brain wiped most of those memories but her body would always remember and how it affected her and the creation of “Lady Gaga” - the artist. Gaga and all 50 people who were part of that performance got a Fire Rose Unity Survivor tattoo dedicated to survivors of sexual assault and molestation. The whole “Chromatica” album talks about mental health and her ups and downs with antipsychotics. “Replay” and “911” are great examples. She also has a song from the perspective of being an addict due to her previous experiences, it’s called “Dope”. Hope this is the beginning of a Gaga journey! She’s great. Thank you for reacting to this. ❤️

As a victim, this song is always so triggering to hear, in a good way. I like how to lyrics focuses in how lonely you feel in the process because truly no one knows how the f it feels. I still have to deal with PTSD and other related issues that constantly reminds me what happened. Ive been doing a lot better tho, I'm just so tired that overall that happened, it's me that have to fix the cracks.

A powerful song with a necessary message from the legendary Lady Gaga. This song really should be required listening as it serves as a strong reminder of this issue as it is one too often swept under the rug. Glad you incorporated the live performance and the music video as both make the song stronger and more memorable. Thank you for doing this song and sharing your thoughts about Campus SA. Also, there are many songs by Gaga you should do at some point when you have time: "Dope," "Do What U Want" (collab with Christina Aguilara), "Replay," "Fun Tonight," and "911." Once more thank you for what you do for us and others. Glad to be a part of this journey with you.

I was so happy to see you did this song and reposted it today. I’ve had a difficult day after working on some of my trauma stuff with my own therapist and I’ve always used music to help express how I’m feeling and also to get some of the feelings out. Thank you for doing what you do with music

There’s not a woman in my family who hasn’t been victimized. I know someone who is a victim of the Red Zone herself in her first year at WVU. It’s so much more common than people realize. No one should have to look at their family and realize that your mother, your grandmother, aunts, cousins and so on and so forth have been systematically abused and made to feel less than worthless.

SA trigger warning if anyone wants to listen to this song. A song that really affects me is Dog Teeth by Nicole Dollanganger. The song has heartbreaking lyrics about how disgusted she is with her abuser.

We need to be trying to prevent male violence, particularly against women; not just talking about the victims. The focus needs to be on the perpetrators and making it stop. And these are male by a landslide so I think it's important and powerful to name that. I appreciate this video Mere, and my comment is more toward society in general than to you and this video. I just think it would be powerful to learn more about the statistics of men who commit SA, and put more pressure and spotlight on the perpetrators somehow.

Mere, thank you so much for unfiltered and unapologetically showcasing this topic. As someone who only started to really process what happened to me in the past year or so, it's so powerful to see this topic both handled with care, but not sugar coating what it is. It comes with years of pain and self destruction and any means of advocacy and discussion is so important. Thank you. Lady Gaga's performance was so powerful.

i’m a non-binary person but now days ilook more like a boy and i’m a survivor from SA. it happened when I was at college still. he did what he did and I couldn’t tell that to anyone because I felt so much shame and guilty that my brain somehow blocked the memories. I’ve never spoken to my therapist about that before, til I get into a crisis last year and opened up for the first time in 7 years… it is awful and still affecting me somehow, but I know I’m not to blame. it doesn’t happens only to women. it happens to men too. chaotic scenarios anyway. thank you, Mère. xoxo from Brazil.
