Every reaction I watch of yours on a Taylor song, I feel like I've sat through a Masters Class of lyric dissection on human emotions. Thank you very much!
@no.1garlicbreadenthusiast2 жыл бұрын
This is apparently bassed off of one of her close friends divorce. Taylor actually talked about how she felt that even when/if you forgive the other person what must be really hard is suddenly having to build a completely new life after spending so many years used to spending most of your time with that person ie. moving house, making new friends (coz so many of your old ones are shared with your ex), going to diffrent restaurants (in case you bump into your ex at the old ones you used to visit together) & finding new hobbies as well as the fear of re-entering the daiting scene & how you'll eventually have to contemplate seeing your ex be with someone else & learn to be ok with that.

I love the fact that this song is her best friend Abigail’s divorce who she grew up with. I mean isn’t it too briliant to be that empathetic to even write a song about someone else’s pain as if you personally have gone through it all?

I see the ‘dancing as the music stopped’ like they didn’t see what was coming. This song is incredible, I listened to it right after a breakup & it was SO hard to hear but now, 10 months later I can see it from the perspective of someone who can finally see it ‘for what it is’ instead of being in the thick of it all. The way she captured it all is just amazing. And the ‘sunrise’ line is truly special when you finally can see past the darkness 🫶

This is my all time favorite Taylor song it’s right up there for me with All Too Well especially because it came at a time when my husband and I were separating after 10 years…this song came right when I needed it most and we ended up making it work again but this song will always have a special place in my heart cause it perfectly describes how heartbreak from a person you still love or is still good to you feels ❤

The most special thing ever about Folklore and Evermore album, which makes then twin brothers and my absolutely favorites albums, is that there are folkloric tales, it blows my mind imagining she expressing so much well those feeling she not necessarily felt or lived before, and then we are able to navigate through the stories that se sing, i love love love it! this is not most people's favorite song, but it has always provided me with peace and hope that the future will not hold as much bitterness for me. i love your insights and dissection of the song, please keep being amazing! also i found a parallel !! "When you think happiness, I hope you think that little black dress" in Tim Mcgraw and then goes on to say 15 years later "Dappled with the flickers of light, From the dress I wore at midnight, leave it all behind, And there is happiness" in Happiness!!

This song has been such a source of comfort to me. In late 2022 I finally completely ended a on-off relationship that I’d been in for seven years. But this person and I still love and value each other, so there’s no “bad guy,” just bad timing and different life goals. “No one teaches you what to do When a good man hurts you And you know you hurt him too”
@gabrielazel39712 жыл бұрын
for me the part of the post chorus where she says: “past the blood and bruise, past the curses and cries, beyond the terror of the night fall, hunted by the look in my eyes’’ it’s like the stages you past after a breakup, you know sadness, then anger, disbelief of how they could made me this?, all of this thoughts coming to her at night, that is when all of the sudden we start thinking of the things that happened and how they happened, then she continues with: “that would’ve love you for a life time, leve it all behind and there is happiness”, another stage that can be acceptation of the breakup; yes I love you and I could’ve go like that on forever but I accept what is happening now so I have to past over this because after this I will find my happiness. hope it makes sense what I’m saying, I love your videos, I really like how you interpret things ☺️

This song is sad, but I always took it as more hopeful than anything. Knowing that even though it huts now there will be happiness. I wish I had this song when i was a teen. Even though the relationship in the song is about a romantic relationship I think its about big machine and Scott, who was her mentor and probably a close friend.

I think the blood and bruise/curses and cries lines are the middle of that relationship breakdown, maybe the denial she feels? Maybe the curses are her cursing him for leaving, or cries - crying over him leaving? Maybe this is a nod to the thick of a divorce/separation/breakup of a long term relationship? This is just a thought, it’s always been the way I’ve interpreted these lines :)

You know? “From the dress I wore at midnight” I’ve only used one dress at midnight, and that didnt make sense since it might get cold and trouble might come with it. But I was super excited and full with expectations, little innocent too, that I just wanted to look pretty and my best for someone. So, I associate that line with a fresh initial part of innocence, raw feelings and hopes. I just wanted to share. Thank you for this video 🤍

Honey, when I'm above the trees I see this for what it is But now I'm right down in it All the years I've given Is just shit we're dividing up Showed you all of my hiding spots I was dancing when the music stopped And in the disbelief I can't face reinvention I haven't met the new me yet There'll be happiness after you But there was happiness because of you Both of these things can be true There is happiness Past the blood and bruise Past the curses and cries Beyond the terror in the nightfall Haunted by the look in my eyes That would've loved you for a lifetime Leave it all behind And there is happiness Tell me, when did your winning smile Begin to look like a smirk? When did all our lessons start to look like weapons pointed at my deepest hurt? I hope she'll be a beautiful fool Who takes my spot next to you No, I didn't mean that Sorry, I can't see facts through all of my fury You haven't met the new me yet There'll be happiness after me But there was happiness because of me Both of these things I believe There is happiness In our history Across our great divide There is a glorious sunrise Dappled with the flickers of light From the dress I wore at midnight Leave it all behind And there is happiness I can't make it go away by making you a villain I guess it's the price I pay for seven years in heaven And I pulled your body into mine every goddamn night now I get fake niceties No one teaches you what to do When a good man hurts you And you know you hurt him too Honey, when I'm above the trees I see it for what it is But now my eyes leak acid rain On the pillow where you used to lay your head After giving you the best I had Tell me what to give after that All you want from me now Is the green light of forgiveness You haven't met the new me yet And I think she'll give you that There'll be happiness after you But there was happiness because of you too Both of these things can be true There is happiness In our history Across our great divide There is a glorious sunrise Dappled with the flickers of light From the dress I wore at midnight Leave it all behind Oh, leave it all behind Leave it all behind And there is happiness
