At 11, I contracted bacterial meningitis through a brain hernia into my sinus, nearly died, but miraculously got off easy losing just the hearing in my left ear. Even so, it has been showing signs of coming back. I’m very grateful to be so blessed.

same here got in all the way back in 1969 when i was 6 weeks old. Deaf left same as you but unlike you it never healed. And because back then there wasn't something like infusions for babies they gave me so many shots in that tiny body of mine that i am crippled. But i am not complaining it was a miracle someone survived this back then. It still very dangerous as you can see by the many stories....

An amazing story and although in 2001 meningitis try to take my life twice in one week, although I live with permanent damage and daily pain, although I often felt that I can't take any more, I get reminded that people hit by this disease are often left a lot worse off but still find fight to achieve their goals or even new goals. I had meningitis and encephalitis 2009 and was in a coma 3 weeks also on a life support machine 2 times. They didn't know if I would make it or if I did, if I'd be brain damaged as I had fits, one lasting 20 min. I can't remember anything. I woke up had memories los, couldnt remember what day it was where I lived Christmas etc. So sorry how it effected you and respect for not giving up ;-) stay strong

I had meningitis asthma and seizures from the time I was born I overcame meningitis when I was 5 years old I over came seizures when I was 18 I then overcame asthma when I was 21 years old and God still continues to heal me to this day

Feeling sorry for what had happened to u.... How are u now, please tell me, my son had meningitis last year, he is suffering from hypsarrythmia and hydrocephalus, lost right ear hearing... The bacteria that causes most types of bacterial meningitis lives in the back of the throat and can be passed by close contact. 1 in 10 adults carry the bacteria in their throats but not everyone who carries it will get ill and we don't know why some people get ill and other don't. Viral meningitis can be caused by many different types of viruses and can be passed in the same way as, for example, the common cold would be contracted.

Yes, paralysis can sometimes be an after effect of meningitis. As you know, meningitis is inflammation of the protective layers of the brain (meninges) so, simply put, as the brain controls all aspects of the body, there can be many potential after effects. Sorry not replied for a few years. I hope for all that have commented about their loved ones also been effected that all went well and had as much luck as me. Yes I have fully recovered and still today when I hear things or see things on TV about meningitis, think how lucky I was as I had meningitis and encephalitis.

@@jazzming22 I had bacterial infection, my protein levels where very high and white cells. Also after I was on 25 tablets a day for 6months and then slowly cut down. Thank you
