if the third eye is a mild one, then what is a more advanced one? And is there a way to advance without a guru? It's kinda hard to go to India to find a proper one. :( and how and when will a teacher present himself? I hope my comment is answered. Hope everyone is good.

Hey Dr. K i don't know if you read coments on previopus videos, but i have a question. I'm pretty good on excel and i made it my way of living since i work on accounting, I tend to procastinate a lot because i love working fast. So when i'm working fast managing 3, 4 or 5 files (or more), Sometimes i enter in a state that the best way to describe it is "ultrainstinct" from dragon ball. Like i dont think anything is like mi brain take control and my hands move on their own and they make formulas and staff. Gratefully i have this passion for excel that is productive. I tried really hard to achieve that state in other activities but i failed. I just want to know if this has to do with what you describe in the video or is it just so natural that i'm just good and that's it. Sorry for my english. Regards

The last guy was a little frustrating to listen to because I feel like he thought you were just giving him like the "doctor" answer and he didn't take it seriously. It's almost like "yeah yeah whatever I can't do it fast okay I get it..... now what were they knowledge and mindfulness techniques again?" I can also sense his frustration in how long it is going to take to get therapy. But just because it takes a long time, doesn't mean the better option is to take it in your own hands and just do it all yourself. He doesn't seem to understand that taking the therapist route IS IN FACT the fastest way to recovery, he wants to think that he can do it faster himself without a therapist. That's what I got out of it at least.

People like that can be difficult since they assume that the help they receive is bullshit or not serious, likely because some part of them might not think they deserve the help they are being given. He seemed to respect Dr. K by the end of it but yes it can be a bit irritating when people assume and judge before they actually get help. Dr. K was right, he needs to work on being patient with others and himself.

This webinar has felt like reading the “Contents” page of a huge meditations book, without reading any of the pages. It’s given me a list of things that exist in meditations, which is useful, but has left me with more questions than we started with. The main questions I still have is: Why should I meditate? What are the practical utility “rewards” of the different forms of meditation, besides increased mindfulness? What’s the value of enlightenment to an atheist? Context: I’ve watched a ton of western meditation videos, apps, tried mindfulness, experienced a no-mind-state, and watched webinar 1-3 of Dr K
@austinz9310
@austinz9310 3 жыл бұрын
There’s a whole bunch of research on the benefits of meditation but if you do it for a reason that’s kind of not the point. You do it cause it’s fun and makes your life fuller and more peaceful. But if you don’t like it then you don’t have to do it.
@Soldier842
@Soldier842 3 жыл бұрын
@@austinz9310 interestingly, I'm 3 months away from my previous comment and I do have my reasons for meditation now, but it's quite different from yours! To me meditation has 2 functions. First, it works great as a "mental reset to calm" which is great to do before focus work. Meditation will detach my mind from reddit and KZbin and allow me to start working with a clean mind. Second, meditation is a great "radar scan" to check how I'm doing and how I'm feeling. Meditation often makes me realize I'm tired or hungry or anxious etc. And once I'm aware of these things I can act towards them. I meditate multiple times a week now.
@kpsandwich

In a recent interview on his channel the guest asked "why do we meditate?" His response was "meditation helps separate ourselves from our mind" they then asked "why is that a good thing" and his response was "because our mind is the root of all of our suffering". Hope that's helpful.

I think it's a disservice to intermingle traditional mysticism with scientific psychology without explicitly delineating between the two methodologies before you begin presenting the information. Sticking this sermon on your preferred religious practices in the middle of an otherwise scientific and secular series on mental health can mislead people; those who defer to your expertise and knowledge on an academic subject may be lead to believing something that is scientifically baseless because you present it in the same way you present the scientifically based information. I only made it halfway through the video because I did not accept your foundational premises; it seems to me that one of the main premises for this practice is that 'enlightenment' is a real thing that exists as you described. But how exactly can you demonstrate that? To me, it seems similar to what christians would call 'divine revelation', that you just 'have to experience it for yourself'. That type of proposition, one that cannot be independently verified or measured scientifically, is essentially unfalsifiable and indistinguishable from a delusion. And that bothers me because the other information you've presented on procrastination, motivation, anxiety, emotions, etc. is now questionable because I can't trust you to adhere strictly to the best known methods of coming to conclusions, and it's a shame because I've really enjoyed your content and found it helpful so far. I care more about truth than seemingly useful delusions, because seemingly useful delusions impede us from continuing to seek that underlying truth.

He has said many times that what he is doing is providing people hypotheses to test. Coping with mental health issues is a completely different journey for everyone. Some people may get help from the eastern methods of meditation, others more from the neuroscience/psychology aspect. He is not asking anyone to believe in anything, he just wants to show people new perspectives
@helswake
@helswake 4 жыл бұрын
@@omegascrub I don't disagree with you, and nothing you've said is contrary to my comment above. To put it very briefly, I think it would be more responsible if he had said as much at the outset of this video.
@SaladDongs
@SaladDongs 4 жыл бұрын
@@helswake I am a secular person myself and yet I find that taking what he says with a grain of salt doesn't hinder anybody. Yoga and third eye meditation are something that just work for me. I don't know why they do. I' sure they have a scientific explanation, maybe even placebo, but if it works, it works. Just try it. Be a scientist if you want. Experiment. If it doesn't work, move on to the next thing. If it does, there you go. I don't think there's anything unfalsifiable that dr k has said so far though. Even stuff on meditation was backed up with research. He's from harvard. He's not bullshitting.
@helswake
@helswake 4 жыл бұрын
@@SaladDongs I don't think you read or understood my post at all, and I don't disagree with anything you've said. But that's probably my fault for going on a tirade. I'm only advocating for him to explicitly delineate between science and mysticism before presenting the information. All he has to do is say, "Before we begin, keep in mind that this information about yoga comes from traditional mysticism, it's religious practice, and there is no science backing up what they believe about enlightenment and energy. But I believe it can still be useful because xyz." But this video appears in a series that's so far based on science and psychiatry, and the information presented here is presented exactly as it was before, and I think it can be potentially misleading and harmful if someone takes it at face value as the truth; given his appearance of credibility this isn't beyond possibility, especially for people who may be desperate and aren't keenly skeptical. Speaking from experience, delusion and clinging to unfounded belief systems can absolutely mess your mind and life up. I'm probably being overly critical, and after watching more of Dr. K's content, he does seem to promote this type of stuff as a 'grain of salt' sort of thing, but it really irks me that he didn't in this video where it would absolutely be the responsible thing to do. For the record, I love Dr. K and think he's doing fantastic work.

Yoga is not a religious practice. And i think that pretty much sums up the answer for you. According to you if he was practicing boxing or kung fu if was promoting some belief (how?) I know you jumped to conclusion without cross checking yourself. And why can't he teach something he knows and i don't think anywhere he said that these practices will cure your mental issues or they are scientific at all (is boxing , painting or any other art is scientific ,you will see many psychologists saying that painting or gardening helps you in life why ? Because it engages you thats it .
