An alcoholic can avoid drink but someone with food issues cannot avoid food. You are such a wise and beautiful person.. I am narrowing down on week 3 on WW and I blew it last night - a 51 point meal. Before your videos I would have binged until I weigh in on Tuesday - I needed to see this video - back on track today and working to add activity points to make it happen.

Technically, you can live the rest of your life without food, but for most people that isn't much time.

@@anneliseanderson9no one said it wasn’t valid. But alcoholics don’t have to face food everywhere, constantly, even in their own home (so long as they don’t allow people to bring it into their own home).

I have struggled with weight ever since having my child at 25. I’ve lost and gained the same 30-40 lbs for years. Every time I lost the weight I would say, I’m never going back to my old weight, only to do just that. Until I realized it was a mental thing, I would always yo-yo. I’m currently on WW and in a much better head space. Thank you for inspiring me!

The hard part for me is loving myself. Not loving myself is why it's so hard for me to lose this weight.

It takes a lot to even admit that! It takes so much work but you can definitely get to a place where you love yourself and are able to lose weight! I struggled (and still do) with this a lot but the main thing I started to do was compliment myself out loud and overall talk nicely to myself. Isn’t always easy but it makes more of a difference than you even realize! I’m here if you have any questions or need some extra support 🥰

Helllooooo...recently found your channel and love your videos. This one hit home for me ... the chanting of "go fatty, go fatty" from a car load of guys out the window while I was to power walking in my neighborhood 😔 ... how horribly embarrassing, felt shamed and just disgusted with myself. Years later and 50 lbs lighter, with 15 left to lose, I struggle every day to keep going, I love your channel and needed this reminder to be kind, patient and not beat myself up all the time ..... body dysmorphia is a real thing after the weight loss, I feel so fat some days, but yet have come so far .... YOU, are an inspiration !!! Thank you ❤

I finally decided I'm going to try WW in Jan 2022. I have struggled with my mental health for years- ADHD, and now depression. I've tried years of therapy and medication, and yet I could never get past the mental wall holding me back. Food would bring me comfort, and I would overeat until I was sick every night. I sympathize with your story so much and I'm finally in the right mindset of making a change FOR MYSELF and no one else. I'm still afraid, and I know it's still going to be a daily battle, but I'm almost 30 and 300+ lbs. I need to lose weight not only for myself but for the family I want to have with my husband. I need my energy back. I need 'me' back. You have helped me so much in just the short time I've watched your videos. You are down-to-earth and so genuine, and I love your 'realness.' I also love all your tips in starting out with WW because I thought I couldn't eat at fast food restaurants, but knowing that I can makes this all a little easier, lol! Thank you. ☺

Food, the original potentially addictive substance. You could also call your site Nikki Gets Real. I’m a mental health counselor and a lifetimer with WW, where I lost over a hundred pounds. I can relate to your story and appreciate your honesty & service you are doing for others. It sounds to me like you are changing your relationship with food and with yourself. That’s powerful!

Thanks so much for your honesty! ❤ I only wish mental health would be spoken of more, especially around food issues. I am a female with 50 lbs to lose. My male boss is always banging on about my thinner (and therefore societally more attractive) female coworker and how great she looks, blah, blah, blah - and I work in a religious setting!! Can't get away from it no matter where you are - even in a church!! Your words were exactly what I needed to hear. Self-care is way down on my to-do list, until right now. I am done with negative self-talk and putting everyone else before me. I count just as much as they do. I cannot thank you enough for making this video. Peace, love, and all the best in 2023 to you and yours!

Nicki, I have been watching your videos and they have really inspired me. I have had those moments of “I might as well eat because there’s no way I am going to lose the weight” i know this is an older video but it has really made me think about how important our mental health is and how it links to food. Thank you for making this and sharing because it REALLY helps to know you’re not alone. ❤

I've lost 70lbs this year and I can honestly relate to perceiving myself as fatter now compared to how I thought about myself when I was heavier... I gained a lot of weight over two pregnancies, so I had a really good self-love narrative of 'wow look at this accomplishment, you created two whole human beings' and so the weight and my looks weren't even on my radar then. But now I'm 2lbs away from my goal weight of 165lb and yet I look in the mirror and it doesn't feel like enough and I'm so critical about my looks.. I feel like it's definitely an issue in the mental health realm because my husband is always so adamant about how incredible I look and reminding me about where I've come and so so supportive, and I've also gotten a lot of friends reach out asking for help with their weight loss goals and that always feels good to be their inspiration and be able to help. I don't have a lot of pictures of my journey but the one side-by-side comparison I did just didn't even feel real.. Like neither version of me felt like me in those pictures, if that makes sense? Being so vulnerable to post about that kind of thing was also soooo far out of my comfort zone, so I honestly have to wonder if that was the right thing for me, because I feel like my being critical of myself started around that time... But! I've started resistance training these last two weeks (my weight loss thus far has been entirely diet changes), so I notice I do feel better as I'm getting stronger, and watching other videos of yours where weight has stayed the same but seeing the toning difference is really inspiring for me too. I've heard from other health bloggers about the importance of sleep too, and I know that's another area I can work on. Thank you for this! It gave me a lot of comfort to hear I'm not alone and gave some good pointers I know I can work on

When I have those days that I feel "big," I just remind myself that I actually look the same as I did 3 or 4 days ago when I looked in the mirror and thought I looked "thin." You don't just blow up in 3 days, it's in your head. Also, for those just starting who feel like a failure or are embarrassed that they're out of shape (aka...me....again), just remember that you are at the starting line and this is the worst it will be; it's gets better from here and everyone starts somewhere.

Powerful and brave. Wish I had heard these words 40 years ago. Spent years beating myself up. Two long-term bouts of anorexia. I am so happy I found this channel! Thank you.

Been on a weight loss journey after having a baby 10months ago and being stuck in the house for over a year. I could never find videos speaking on the mental aspect of weightless for motivation but I'm glad I finally found one. I realized I have to out my health first to be the best mama, wife, etc. So I'm now 5 weeks into working out, having me time, and getting more sleep, all while talking to myself in a better way. Glad you were real about the journey to being fit and didn't just glamorize it. You are very wise, and everything you said I have felt alot of it. Thank you ❤️

You sharing your deeper thoughts & feelings actually draws me closer to you, and makes me trust you more. Thank you for having the courage to be “seen”, and to go beyond what we may or may not want to eat for weight loss (those videos are helpful, too..just in a different way.) Congratulations on all of the hard work you have done, internally & externally, & for reminding us of the life changing value of prioritizing our self care.🙋‍♀️💗🦋

A shout out to all! Thank you Nikki gal. Add this to mental health that can be fixed easily. Here’s something that’s not discussed more- wearing clothing that don’t squeeze the body. Nikki, as a former athlete, and always a short, big girl, with huge boobs, oh man I suffered major verbal abuse on the court. The assigned sports clothing can be also too small. I was always stretching them out, not drying them, and altering the fit. Even when I get down to a decent size, my body has to have clothes fitted, and that’s okay. For instance, If you would have loosened the elastic a bit, no muffin top; yes, the weight is still there; however, we all have to set ourselves up to succeed, and I would surmise that your figure carries weight around the waist. If so, always take care of comfort but not to the extreme. I also was a pageant coach, and it’s all about making the clothing fit the body. All who watch this terrific talk, think about this. If we look good in our clothes all the way down the scale, it’s immediate gratification. Find someone help you to figure out what looks good on you because it’s look good on you. I will never, ever be able to wear what Nikki can. Our figures are 180. Embrace what your appearance is when you do reach a goal. Then go people watching😂. There are millions of shapes and sizes. And it’s okay! Much love to all.

I’m down 45 to 50 lbs. over the last two or three hears. I want to loose another 20 lbs. but I’m at a plateau for about 5 months. Trying to stay positive. You should be so proud of yourself. Never give up. That’s what I’m telling myself as well. 💖

I relate comfort to food as well because of childhood home life. My stepdad could be unpredictable in his temper towards me but meal time was always a good time for us. We always ate meals together and watched a show after like you and I was just talking to my husband about all this week so hearing someone with a similar experience reaffirms what I was thinking on where this might have started and how to deal. I'm also working away from home for long hours in the car which has lead to either eating out or starving all day then doing the comfort eating in front of the TV at the end of the night usually not until 10 pm so I'm trying to change all these things. I'm only on my 2nd week but this gives me comfort and hope so thank you for being brave, raw, and real and sharing all of this it's truly appreciated.

This video is so relatable to me you have no idea. I’m 48 years old. But when I was in high school I played basketball and I was a guard so I had to inbound the ball. And when I was doing that a bunch of guys from the opposing teams fans said “Number 34’s legs look like tree trunks”. Mind you I was 5’4” and like 130#. That comment began a spiral into anorexia to binge eating to obesity and more. People will NEVER understand how comments damage people. I still remember that like it was yesterday. This video is so important I’m sure it will help so many people including me! Thank you!!

I get it. I was on a weight loss journey and I lost so much weight. I started eating better. I got out there and I five I just started moving my body more and the weight came off and I was so happy mentally I had to change the way I was thinking And it helped but then I had an accident on the job which caused me to be out of work for a while and I couldn’t exercise. It was my right foot I tried but every time I would try, I would have this excruciating pain and my foot would swell up the size of a football so now I’m right by where I started. I hate looking in the mirror. I’m so disgusted with myself. My back hurts really bad. I’m a mess. I just need the motivation and the mindset to get back into it. Please pray for me any encouraging words will really help.

When I realized I had an eating disorder I decided to try weight watchers. I wasn't eating because I was hungry.. I was eating because of my mental illness.. I was eating for all the wrong reasons. It helps me not feel alone knowing I'm not the only one who did this.

I’ve lost 12 pounds so far over a few months. I found that you need to replace it with something. same goes with smoking or any addiction. You need to find a way to get your mind off of it. Otherwise you’ll never accomplish your goal. The worst is always the first few days to a week because you’re cravings are strong. Just know that your cravings will decrease a little each day. then you’ll get to the point where you’re not even thinking about it assuming you’re eating Whole Foods most of the time. Frozen foods and takeout produce a mass amount of cravings, you eat Whole Foods you’ll be full and not even think about food after.

This is a great video. Are you still part of WW? I resonate with so much that you said. I'm 100% stuck in the what others think of me judgement. I'm having a hard time losing the last few pounds because I get so wrapped up in my head and the scale on the floor that I end up self sabotaging my efforts and all the hard work I have put into my journey. I would love to connect with you and learn some mindset techniques that might help me slay this dragon. Hope this message finds you well, looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you so much for your video and sharing your journey. I am wondering, when you did eat emotionally or binge eat did you still track all of those points when it would happen? How did you rectify having those periods of emotional eating with still keeping on track with weight watchers and not shaming your self when the points were off the charts?

It takes a lot of work! I’m still working on it everyday but what I started with is every time I have a negative thought pop in my head about myself I quickly change it to something positive and say it out loud. For a long time I specifically struggled with looking in the mirror so now every time I see myself in a mirror, I give myself a compliment (usually out loud as long as there aren’t other people around 😂) Even if deep down I didn’t fully believe the compliment, saying it out loud made it that much more real in my head!! Hope that helps 🥰
