I have seen a mesh over a thinset layer when applying over existing tile. Is that the recommendation? Also I have old tile with some possible areas of mold in the grout? How would that be remedied before the plaster application? Thanks

Does anyone know how much time you have to apply before the product in the pail starts to harden?

It depends on how much water you add. At the low end, it will start to get hard to work with after 45 minutes. I added a bit extra so it was pancake batter consistency, which made it much easier to work with and lasted a couple of hours.
