I would really love if Mephiles was able to tell that something is off with Time, being half of Solaris and all. He would be able to tell that this Shadow is not the one he knew before. What if he tries to escape this time and attempts to get back into the main timeline. This would be totally possible due to the Time Eater’s power, with it being able to bring back Crisis City, Kingdom Valley, and Mephiles from non-existence. And if Mephiles actually succeeds, he could become a recurring villain in a way. They’d have to dramatically nerf his time travel abilities tho, or just flat out remove them. Maybe allow time manipulation like Rewinding or Stopping, but not full on time travel

I could see him getting similar time attacks to someone like Young Xehanort from the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Could be cool, considering Shadow's chaos control mechanics - Mephiles' time abilities could have the players face that themselves

I hope Mephiles isn’t just some boss and that’s it. Him being back raises too many questions like will Shadow remember Mephiles, will he have any motives besides killing Shadow, does he have any connection at all to the time eater things like that

I don’t think Shadow will remember him, he may have repressed memories start to return in the form of flashbacks similar to ones we’ve seen Sonic have in Frontiers.

​@soniccreations if I remember correctly it's was confirmed that shadow and sonic both remember the events of 06 taking place and the events of 06 are cannon to the Archie comics though they happened off panel. I think some part of mephiles was confirmed to be a part of the time eater recently

I'm making the assumption that every level has a designated boss. So far we got: Space Colony Ark - Biolizard Rail Canyon - Metal Overlord Kingdom Valley - Mephiles Sunset Heights and Chaos Island are all we have left at the moment so I predict Infinite and Knight will be boss fights in the game.

​​​@@soniccreations I know I say this a lot, but I have good reason for why. It is just a lot of interest lore that sega doesn't really use. Plus, Ifrit is connected to Gerald, and it would be neat to learn more about the stuff he studied and made. I would love to see an Ifrit boss and nega Mother Wisp bosses in Sonic x Shadow generations. Both are connected to lore that sega refuses to use. Ifrit (sonic rivals 2) can destroy an intirer dimension bathing it in fire (the game comfirms its whole universe, not just a planet). Sonic and Shadow only defeat a heavily weakened ifrit as it isn't fully revived yet (it did eat a bunch of chao and become invincible, though. Plus, he has mind control powers and is just as sentient as chaos even though it wasn't at full power). But they still beat it in base, which is still incredibly impressive. I bring him up because Gerald has notes on ifrit implying Gerald Robotnik somehow got into the dimension that chaosic inferno takes place in. Plus, ifrit seems connected to the chao somehow, and Gerald knows of him, so i hope he is at least in the journal. As for the nega mother wisp, I loved her boss fight. She is a part of the wisps lore (yes, the wisps have lore actually lore, such as the mother wisp creating the wisps and the planets that eggman captured, the ds version of colors going into detail on how negative wisps are made and how it affects their minds, actually giving each wisps their own personalities like Lazer trying to fight the robots and void straight up destroying shit and causing chaos. The mother wisp is kind and motherly but can have a temper. eggman is lucky he got caught in the black hole before she got free. Plus, the wisps actually flow with level design in colors wii and ds. Similar to how the doom powers seem to. Unlike in the lost world or forces. The ds has a better story than the wii version. It has interesting lore, the wisps are fun and the stages are fun. Not to mention, multiple characters have sonic do missions to help free wisps or extra information on what is going on. I have both versions. The wisps are neat and do have lore. I wish sega would actually utilize their lore more). Ifrit and the mother wisp are very interesting and think you should cover them. Plus, the fact that Sonic and Shadow, among other characters, defeated Ifrit in base shows how powerful they are. Also, I think marine the raccoon should return due to her unexplained power, and the complaints about her are already addressed in her character arc and development from sonic rush adventure. Also, phantom king creates the egg revery, which is infinite in space-time, and space and time (yes, there is a difference) in Sonic Mania, and that's just classic super sonic. Also, Chaos drives, artificial chaos, the ark, and G.U.N. are all interesting. I wish sega would use them more, too. Oh, and Emerl and Gemerl should be explored a bit again. Sonic rush, rush adventure, rivals 2, the advance games, sonic battle, and Sonic colors ds deserve more attention. Oh, and sega sonic the hedgehog arcade is awesome. oh, and Sage definitely should return as she is a neat character with cool lore. And the dark arms and black doom are neat lore wise. Note mention sega not using the wisps personalities and sometimes going against said personalities (Viod and probably Lazer likely wouldn't like being shoved in wispons. Not to mention, void usually doesn't trust random people unless they are people they think are safe, which isn't going to be random people. Meaning it is a miracle the resistance weren't losing people to angry viod wisps. Oh, and the jewel Scepter was cool. There is a lot of lore they should bring back. Sonic colors ds should definitely count. It has so much lore (like the mother wisp, her having created the wisps and planets. And how becoming a nega wisp affects a wisp's mind) that fixes the issues with the mainline wisps' issues on top of giving the wisps their own unique personalities. The ds game has so much stuff that sega should have utilized in the lost world and forces that they didn’t. Having Rush, Rush adventure, sonic colors, and Rivals 2 stuff would be amazing. Plus the mother wisp seems immortal. And the nega mother wisp was cool.

As cool as it would be seeing Shadow fight Knight, I just don’t see how he’d be able to beat Knight. Don’t forget that Knight can one shot base Sonic with just his shield

Okay, hear me out. Mephiles gets a boss fight and maybe a few cutscenes. Shadow defeats Black Doom at the end of the game, but Mephiles finds a way to escape the white space, and comes back in a future game as the main antagonist. Maybe he messes up the future or something after escaping? (Hopefully this means a Silver game or an 06 remaster, my expectations are totally realistic and rational) I mean this game could just serve as a reintroduction to Mephiles to use him for a later game/project. Just my personal thoughts, I dunno lol.

@@CryptorYT Even if they did bring him back, knowing this fanbase I'm sure people are just gonna claim they somehow made him "generic" or something even when they keep his character exactly how it was in 06. Besides idk what he'd really do getting into the present, his whole this was to combine with Iblis and become Solaris again but Iblis is gone. People seem to forget that he's Solaris' mind.

I'd like to see them explore the vision of Shadow being "crucified" (for lack of a better term) by humanity from his first fight with Mephiles. That always felt very apocalyptic for a Sonic game, but can now be addressed due to the presence of the Time Eater.

Mephiles's Monsterous form is often forgotten, but he takes on a form that looks like a dark purple version of iblis. and that looks similar enough to the time eater. so i personally think since Eggman took over the time eater at the final boss of 2011's generations, mephiles can do the same thing this time around. or the time eater can re appear in future games since he could just be a time eater from a different time!

Kinda feel like Mephiles should be something more than just a rival boss, since he can freely time travel. (and like you said "Thanos level threat") If not, the least I'd wish for, is great voice acting as before, and since Solaris was erased from all time, but not really cuz plot maybe, so, just cuz of his nature, Mephiles has to be confirmed to come back later (even if all that “A different form, a different time.”) And, as far as I understand, rival characters and such are not aware of the situation, just continuing on their routine as before being taken by Time Eater. In my mind, Mephiles would be just a smidgeon more aware, especially as Shadow just doesn't know him (Mephiles already experienced this time-travely memory thing, he should be able to recognise it again and catch on that he wasn't the cause of it).

Mephiles appears in Sonic Runners as a companion for gameplay, so... in any case, Time Eater and Mephiles are separate entities as it wasn't flatout confirmed that they are the same.

I'm really glad that Mephiles is making his return but he also deserves another Main Villain role and if there one VAs that would be perfect for providing the voice for Mephiles then it would have to be either Ron Perlman or James Woods.

Even if Mephiles comes back as a minor boss like all of the bosses in the Original Generations, I would absolutely love it if in an end credits scene he, and maybe Infinite, return to life and become recurring villains in future games (or IDW comics) by breaking free from the time period they are being resurrected from.

I really don't think Dusty Desert is actually a stage in Shadow Gens it's just where you fight Mephiles. Like you fight Metal Overlord in Final Fortress but it's not actually a stage. Same with the inside of the Ark's core with the Biolizard. But yeah I'm very certain Mephiles is just a boss, he's not a rival battle he's definitely a boss. Maybe there's a cutscene where Shadow gets the Scepter of Darkness from the end of Kingdom Valley and that's how he defeats him again. Or yeah they could leave his fate ambiguous too, I could see that. Will be surprised if they do though. It's almost like all of these other villains were thrown into this white void by Eggman cause they all could've easily messed with his plans. Regardless I'm very excited to fight Mephiles and hear his boss remix, that's gonna be awesome. That trailer overall was nuts, Sunset Heights looks like how it should've been in Forces lol. Having you really in the thick of the war, platforming around the rampaging Death Egg Robots. I'm sure Mephiles and Shadow will speak to each other, if they have Metal Overlord talk to him they're definitely gonna have Mephiles do that as well. Still really don't know if Infinite will appear or have a boss but we'll see. There's some quick footage of Shadow using Doom Surf down a sewage drain in the underground bit of Sunset Heights and the thumbnail of the video had Chaos on it which made me wonder if they're actually gonna have Shadow fight against all the phantom clones in Forces then Infinite himself or something. Unlikely, but man that'd be awesome. I will be very surprised if Dan Green comes back lol, I'm 100% expecting a new VA. I'm sure whoever it is will sound just as good, they've already picked people who're nailing Black Doom and Metal Overlord. Also going back to stages, I think that giant orb with Doom's eyes all over it is actually the final level. That shot where Shadow flies up to it with Doom Wing could be him going in there and it's like a reborn Black Comet kind of stage. But again we'll see, I'm just as blown away by this trailer and my hype for the game was already through the roof. It's going into space now haha, can't wait for the first episode of Dark Beginnings tomorrow.

I would love for Mephiles to return as a full villain for Shadow from this. He's on a similar level to Black Doom in how he affects Shadow's character, so it'd be a little disappointing if he just ended up a silent one & done boss here. To me Black Doom covers the trials of Shadow's past; what was he built to do, his trauma, who does he owe his loyalties to etc.? But Mephiles covers his future; mankind's fear of him, an immortal threat, man's unchanging nature, the potential to lose everything again in the future (team dark) and being alone again. There's just so much potential for him.

The next 3D Sonic game will be 100% Sonic Frontiers 2. The story of Sonic frontiers was very safe, good but safe. Sonic Frontiers 2 will probably step up the game both in gameplay and the story, which is the perfect time to bring Mephiles back as the main villain. There's a good chance this won't happen, but you never know. Sega knows fans want Mephiles the Dark back, they just need the perfect moment. Side note: mephiles is the god of time so he has a good chance to have a bigger role in Sonic x Shadow generations even if it is a post credit scene

Time travel is a complicated subject it’s plausible that it’s Mephiles during shadow’s final showdown there’s many possibilities the time eater literally could pull beings from the past in theory

Honestly this would be great but while this game looks good I wouldn’t but to much hope in sega doing something interesting with the villains after this game but mephiles may have a chance the fans love him and we’re extremely excited seeing him again, his new action figure sold like hotcakes and was top 10 on action figures on Amazon so maybe we could see him after this

I’m glad to see Mephiles return in a new Sonic game. Even if it’s just for a boss fight. He’s one of my favorite Sonic villains so seeing him return is a welcome surprise. Hopefully they do him justice in said boss fight. One thing I am intrigued about is will Shadow even remember Mephiles. Since the events of Sonic 06 were technically erased from the main timeline. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

@@soniccreations It would make sense that Mephiles would remember. Even though the events of Sonic 06 were erased, like the Time Eater, Mephiles is a manipulator of the space-time continuum. He would more than likely have a grasp of what’s going on in Shadow Generations. Whereas Shadow would probably not know who he is. I suppose only time will tell.
