Great overview. I love how like 70% of the characters it seems like started out or where at one point on the opposite side. Not much separating heroic warriors and evil warriors other than chance and luck. Also an underwater playset would have been amazing.

@@battleramblog I've noticed this. Only the First Four have their allegiances locked down; everyone else seems either capable of neutrality (Taylor's concepts for Teela and/or the Sorceress, some Zodac) or to flip sides (Stratos, Mer-Man, other treatments of Zodac). Even going into 1983, while Trap-Jaw and Ram-Man are pretty firmly placed as villain and hero, Tri-Klops and Man-E-Faces seem to have a certain ambiguity about them at times.

My favorite Merman is the original Cross-Sale. He just looks kinda creepy in the right way. I grew up on the Gulf of Mexico and as a kid more than once imagined Merman as he appeared on the back of the packaging rising from the waves at night and scared myself sh*tless. lol. He was the last of the original 8 that arrived in our house -- a couple weeks after Teela & Zodac, and he was my brother's -- I got a Princess Leia Boussh that week, and remember double-checking the cardback to make sure he'd gotten the right figure.

Awesome info as usual. My favorites are the cross-sell and 200X, but the upcoming Origins Turtles of Grayskull mutated version might be it for me, because it captures the early concept with almost Mondo's exclusive colors with an additional/optional tail/fin lower body piece!
