The mothers and sisters of the Punjab and Dogra provinces (there is always a historical research behind every performing art item) have been singing these folk songs thousands of years before the creation of India as a union. Stop fighting over who’s song this is and who’s better etc. I’m a Pakistani Punjabi and this song is a folk song from undivided Punjab. Punjabis on both sides speak Punjabi, sing the same folk songs and have a similar culture. Difference is our side of Punjab has Muslim Influence whereas the other side of Punjab has a Sikh/ Hindu influence. Other than that we are the same Punjabis.
