Stop fighting over who’s song this is and who’s better etc. I’m a Pakistani Punjabi and this song is a folk song from undivided Punjab. Punjabis on both sides speak Punjabi, sing the same folk songs and have a similar culture. Difference is our side of Punjab has Muslim Influence whereas the other side of Punjab has a Sikh/ Hindu influence. Other than that we are the same Punjabis.

Such a beautiful and talented singer. A folk song in its composition is such that it’s meant to be sung again and again by many singers century after century. It’s not as much as it’s being copied as it’s being passed on from one to another generation with obvious changes in the music. The mothers and sisters of the Punjab and Dogra provinces (there is always a historical research behind every performing art item) have been singing these folk songs thousands of years before the creation of India as a union. Mussarat is such a gem. 🙏🏾
