Mera Layyah (My Layyah) is the story of a city where it all began for me. It's a place whose soil runs in my blood. It's where I took my first baby steps.
When vivo asked me to document a story around me using their new vivo X80, I thought long and hard about a story that meant the most to me. I didn't want to make another cycling or a travel video but something deeply personal to me.
Mera Layyah is my observation and reflection of a little city in Pakistan that shaped me into who I am today. It is as much a story of a place as it is of me.
It's my love letter.
I shot this video in the old part of Layyah, in the streets where I grew up rolling an old tire and where I learned to ride a bicycle, and in the locations that were part of my childhood. To keep the visuals faithful to the actual story, I also filmed in the school I used to study as a child.
Apart from the opening drone shot and the sequences where the phone is featured, the footage was filmed using the vivo X80. I wanted to create a video that felt as if I was right there with you, sitting on the pavement of my childhood, sharing the memories of Layyah with you.
